An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Drew commentedThe way it should work is exactly like PS.
Open a .ai file in folder A, and when you export, it will export back to folder A (unless you then navigate to a different folder to save in to).
Then if you open another .ai file from say folder B, when you go to export it will export back to folder B (unless like before you then navigate to a different folder to save in to)

An error occurred while saving the comment Drew commentedI'm literally talking to support about this right now - I've been told it's a "feature" that isn't currently available!! It's not a feature at all, it should be how it works! Photoshop does it, surely it's common sense that the export files should point to the same folder as the source file UNLESS you choose to put them elsewhere?!?!? Crazy.

We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.
Please refer to our knowledge base FAQ – https://illustrator.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1844590 if you face difficulty in update.
Or get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.htmlWarm Regards,

Adobe. Make It an Experience. An error occurred while saving the comment Drew commentedStill not fixed. I have version 22.1.
I want my align option to stay as 'align to key object' as i have a tonne of things I need to align this way, but each time I have to keep switching it from 'align to artboard'.
Actually, yes - what Andy said - saving the path in the file would be a good compromise and appease 2 of the 3 groups!
