  1. Merge some features of Color window into Swatches window

I've always wished the "Color" window and "Swatches" were sort of merged... I wont' bother explaining why its useful to keep the Swatches window open, as i have to assume everybody is constantly using this. I toggle over to the Color window when i'm viewing the color name and swapping the color/fill. In the latest update of Illustrator, they've updated Swatches to include a stroke and fill selector (as well as a list of recent colors, which is pretty cool). they've not however included the swapping arrow, display name of color, or that little default fill selection. can we please…

  2. Fill/Outline Color Palettes

My suggestion is to add an option of separate color palette view for the fill and outline color control menus.
When I select a shape to view or to spec its color fill or outline, it shows the RGB/CMYK slider menu for one but not the other.
I then have to select the opposite to view or spec its color or to no color. I would like to have the option of viewing the color slider menus that shows fill and outline color simultaneously. This would speed up creating and be more efficient to me. Thank you.

  3. Migrate Pattern fill to iPad

It would be great to have that computer feature as well on that device as not a lot of people do not have Ai on all of their devices

  4. Highlight the current color in Recent Colors section, just as in Swatches

I love Recent Colors. Can you please make it so that selecting an object highlights its color in the Recent Colors section, the same way it does in Swatch Tiles?

  5. Add an option to hide the color spectrum bar at the bottom of the Color panel

I would like to request an option to hide the color spectrum bar located at the bottom of the Color panel.

For users who input colors using CMYK or RGB percentages, the color spectrum bar becomes an obstruction. This is particularly problematic when switching to a smaller panel docked below the Color panel, as the spectrum can display with an excessively tall vertical height. Having to manually resize the Color panel every time just to make the color spectrum smaller is cumbersome.

    Please consider implementing this feature.

  6. Pin individual color chips in Recent Colors sections

Recently Ai added Recent Color sections (the request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/44772598) to Swatches and Color panels (with an ability to disable them — thanks!)

Some choices these remember are more important than others — but not enough to be included into the actual Swatches panel. For example, I have a Magenta global color I sometimes want to be added into certain projects, when needed. Pinning it in Recent would allow me to quickly grab it, without dancing with Persistent panels.
Or I could have pinned a brand color of a client I often work with, and have it there.

    I’d like…

  7. Delete all / individual color chips in Recent Colors sections

Recently Ai added Recent Color sections (the request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/44772598) to Swatches and Color panels (with an ability to disable them — thanks!)
Unfortunately, we have no control over the section. Once a color gets added, it stays until Prefs reset.

Sometimes I misclick and create almost identical colors and have to hover later to understand which one is correct... or want to remove some chips to keep some older ones... or wipe everything to be less distracted, because I switch projects.

I’d like to have an ability to hold Opt/Alt or Shift and delete these chips with a click.…

  8. A faster way to recolor copies of a pattern swatch

Pattern Variants - Let's say I have 4 colours (for ex, red, green, blue, yellow) and I want my pattern to exist in all 4 colours (a complete red, a complete so on)

What we usually do - copy the colour code > duplicate the pattern swatch > go into the colour swatch and select the pattern and change its colour > then press done and rename

What if we find a way to cut down these steps and find ways to make quicker variants of each colour?

If you have any better tips and tricks for changing pattern colours…

  9. Illustrator and Photoshop show fractional CMYK color values differently

I have a CMYK document, and it has a linked image in it, with an intentionally chosen profile, with some specific colors set for the background, and these have to be the part of the background, because of blending modes used.
Now I need to grab those colors form the clear parts of the background to quickly transfer them into vector part of the design. But when I try — Ai lies about values.

    Instead of
    70-15-0-0
    0-35-85-0
    0-95-20-0
    I get
    69.8-14.9-0-0
    0-34.9-85.1-0
    0-94.9-20-0

Not much, right? Just 0.2%, why are you mad?
But these would be enough to break…

  10. Color swatch mapping with presets for print production

I made this script using ChatGPT, it does mostly everything I need, but I ran into the issue that the option "Merge Swatches" in the Swatches panel, cannot be used/accessed with JavaScript.

I work as Prepress designer and I have to constantly change spot colors to match the swatches that the print operators need to match the colors the client need (Pantone match or paint swatches). Most of these colors are saved in an .ASE file and I have to manually merge them multiple times.

I thought my script was going to fix this for me until I hit that…

  11. Placeholder Spot Color Swatch Assigned in Illustrator Then Defined in InDesign (and other Adobe Apps - especially AE and Premier)

This would be a joint effort between AI and INDD. But being able to assign a spot color swatch placeholder to a graphic like any other spot swatch (with tint support) that can then be assigned via the links panel in InDesign.

Often I need to color coordinate graphics with a document I am building in InDesign. I typically do this by either generating multiple artboards or layers with the variations I need. But sometimes for one-off projects or projects where there may need to be many variations it just makes the AI file much more cumbersome to deal with.

  12. Make Pattern Options work when stroke is selected in tool panel

You can't open the pattern editor from swatches panel or from shortcut if stroke is selected in tools panel. I shot screen grab to demonstrate.

I can see why it might be desired behaviour, but you can still select patterns to fill a selection, while stroke is selected in tools panel. so it doesn't seem to make sense.

If fill is selected, you can enter the pattern editor for a selected swatch, from the swatches panel independent of pattern swatches in use or active in project. But if stroke is active/selected you can not.

  13. Allow to place cards next to color chips instead of always below for Swatch Info objects

We can choose from two main layout options for Swatch Info: horizontal and vertical.
Horizontal puts 'cards' with text info below the chips, while Vertical option makes them... wait! Still below? Not next to it?
I think we should be able to choose if we want to place them on the side, rather then always at the bottom.
Take a look at a draft mockup attached.

  14. Recolor Artwork with Color Theory / Harmony

A selectable feature to automatically recolor artwork using standard color theory harmonies like Complementary, Analogous, Monochromatic, Triadic, and Tetradic positioned within Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Artwork.

This would allow users to quickly explore different, harmonized color schemes for their designs.

  15. Eyedropper able to select colors from outside Illustrator, dual monitors

The eyedropper could be used to select colors from another window outside of Illustrator. As an example, a Google Chrome window with a photograph that is being displayed on a second screen. This would mean the eye dropper tool would persist outside of the Illustrator window constraints. This could be cancelled by pressing ESC or returning to Illustrator and clicking a different tool. (This would eliminate the need to import the photograph or artwork into Illustrator to sample the colors.)

  16. Allow to include gradients and patterns in Swatch Info objects

    These ARE swatches, after all.
If we have these selected, we expect to have cards for these. The cards for these can state which colors were used in them.

  17. Add Preview option when creating a Swatch Info object

When we create a Swatch Info object, using a dedicated command from the Swatches panel’s menu, the dialog is missing Preview option we can enable and see how the parameters work in real-time.

  18. Display color values for named swatches when hovering

Illustrator automatically names swatches by their color values and displays these names when we hover over swatches in panels.
But if we rename a swatch, Illustrator displays just the name, but not the color formula.
InDesign does the opposite — always shows the color values when we hover, but not the name.

I’d like to see both. Yes, I know that for the automatically named swatches it’d mean both the name made of values will be displayed along with the actual values... but you can solve it with the InDesign’s 'Name with Color Value' option for swatches.

  19. Allow to set text format for CMYK values and other data in Swatch Info objects

The data for CMYK values in cards inside of Swatch Info is formatted with commas.
I’d like to have the ability to customize it: spaces, hyphens, as C100 M50 Y0 K0, etc.

  20. Allow to use custom user templates for Swatch Info objects

Swatch Info is OK (if completed!), but there is not enough customization currently.
Take a look what an awesome ColorList script by Katja Bjerrum offers: https://productivista.com/make-a-list-of-colors-from-your-selection/ — we can set our own shapes before making a color legend.
We could have done it semi-automatically after creating a Swatch Info, with Global Edit, to replace all chips with a custom shape... but for some reason these rectangles are immune to Global Edit (as it often happens, new features get loosely integrated with existing functions...)

This actually also includes text parameters, but perhaps it’s a separate request... Sure, the font is the…
