  1. Allow to set the variable width of stroke to zero

The stroke width tool is great, however you can't reduce the stroke width to zero, you're always left with a hairline. This should be corrected urgently!

  2. Allow adding Arrowheads or similar to both ends of stroke at once.

Provide an option for adding arrowheads to a stroke with one selection rather than each end individually.

  3. Button to convert type to stroke.

Can you please create one button that converts type to single-line strokes? Then we can edit letters using the width tool, etc.

Right now it looks like the best option is to rasterize the type, and Image Trace single line. I know your team can make it easier than that because you're wizards.

  4. Convert expanded strokes back to live strokes (unexpand / unoutline strokes) / Find centerlines

So far there is no way to de-expand strokes back to live strokes.

The suggested practice is to cut the shape in pieces and blend pairs with 1-step blends, expand and join manually — a tedious solution. We have to keep strokes alive as long as possible if we plan to edit them after. The effects we can use to make an art non-destructive are quite limited.

We now have cool Reform plugin by AstuteGraphics that allows to edit expanded strokes in a different way, but is does not solve the original problem and only helps to workaround and offers…

  5. Different Stroke weight in every point node

I'm trying to make a typeface in illustrator, but it's so hard when i have to apply multiple different weight in one stroke (especially with serif typeface). So i have manually expand the stroke and edit it manually, and the result is not tidy or clean enough.

I know there is width tool to edit stroke weight, but it behave more like a brush, it will get messy if i want to change stroke weight and not having consistent shape if i cut some part of the alphabet to use it on another alphabet.

So i have an idea if…

  6. A Dashed Line tool

I have seen a few plugins (Nudge, WidthScribe) do things with dashes that suggest there is room for a lot more dashes on a stroke than the three repeating dash/gap entries the Stroke panel lets me create.

I would like an interactive, on-canvas tool that lets me drag dashes, gaps, and their endpoints around on a selected path. Being able to create and delete dashes/gaps would be nice, too.

  7. Auto-calculate spacing of dashed strokes, given dash width and number of dashes

When I'm designing dials for equipment, I often need to place a dash at a given number of/angular intervals around a curve (eg, ten 1mm dashes around an arc of radius 15mm and theta 3pi/5 radians). Often the simplest, most time-effective way to do this is with dashed lines.

Currently, in order to work out accurate gap spacings without dashes getting cut off at the end stops, I end up having to calculate arc lengths and gap spacing by hand. I daresay the math is good for my brain, but it would be really handy to input "dash width: 1mm,…

  8. Automatic stroke manipulation based on the depth of geometry

It has been quite time-consuming when producing architecture line drawing representations. The depth of an object is represented through the different stroke weights. Every time I have to modify the stroke weights manually (i.e. perspective representation, the closer visual depth the objects have, the thicker stroke weights they have, vice versa) I expect illustrator can update this ability to automatically compute the visual depth of objects and adjust stroke weights of every geometric edges based on the rule of perspective representation! That could save life of many architecture students!

  10. Control stroke thickness spanning across the whole line.

Ability to control the stroke thickness on different points on a single line, much like how the gradient works, but with stroke thickness.

  11. The ability to create individual strokes for portions of a single path

Would Love to be able to select path segments with the Direct Select tool and apply, line weight and color assignments to that segment only — WITHOUT cutting the path into myriad, noncontiguous chunks.
Wishing to retain the editability of the path.

  12. Offset path feature won't become a sharp

Why if I have a curve that has several very small (sharp) angles, when I enter it in the offset path feature (+ offset), then the offset result can't be sharp anyway. but if (-) is offset, then can it turn sharp?

  13. Min Stroke width when adding a profile

I have wanted this to be a feature for over a year now.

As many of us know, we can simply add a profile shape to strokes. We can also create our own profiles! The process of creating profiles is not very user friendly in my opinion.

I think it would be a great idea to be able to state which profile you want for your stroke, and then an addition option comes up that gives you 1 extra boxes:

Minimum stroke weight for the stroke profile

Obviously the "max" stroke weight is changed in the "Weight" section already.

    Most…

  15. Scaling Arrowheads Maintains Original Stroke Width

Is it possible to add an option in the Stroke panel which allows scaling of the arrowheads and start and end shapes (like Circle, Square, SimpleWide, Simple, ettc.) without scaling their stroke width?

Now the stroke width of the arrow or shape is increased or decreased when scaling. Please see attached images. Often times I would like to use a bigger arrowhead or shape but I have to create hem manually as scaling up results the arrowhead becoming a wider stroke than the stroke itself.

For instance - a 2 point stroke with a SimpleWide arrowhead results in the arrowhead…

  16. Measurements are not working correctly

If you want to make a new path with 100mm x 100 mm in dimensions and and do that via the transform palette then the path shows an incorrect size (100,013 mm x 100,009 mm) but only if the path has an outline. If there is just a colour filling then the measurement is correct.
    That should be corrected quickly.

  17. correct measurements

In the attached screen shot you can see that the height of each of these objects, when looking at the blue illustrator guidelines, is measured the same but in reality, as is clearly obvious from the stroke attached to one of them, they are not the same size. One of them is clearly bigger in size due to the stroke. This discrepancy is very and constantly confusing when trying to work in precision measurements. Please could you fix so the stoked object calculates the stroke outer edge as additional width, as that is what it is. Thanks James

  18. "Use preview bounds" option in stroke panel

Please add the "use preview bounds" option not only available in the presets, but also in the stroke panel (e.g. with a checkmark) to make it easier to switch it on / off. That would make icon design much faster.

  19. Apply any Cap Style to a Stroke End Point

Allow user to be able to select an end anchor point on a stroke and apply any cap they choose. So one path could have a butt cap on one end and round cap on the other end. This would make building certain styles with strokes far easier and avoid problems that the current workflow creates when expanded at times.

  20. Enhanced Miter Join with Obelisk/Chisel options for shortening spikes スパイクを短縮するためのオベリスク/チゼルオプションによるマイター結合の強化

Instead of Miter Joins just defaulting to Bevel Joints when the Miter Limit is too low, Obelisk/Chisel options can give a whole range of symmetric/asymmetric shortening of spikes, for the whole path through the Stroke palette and/or as a more flexible feature like live Corners applicable to one/more/all joins.

Described and shown in the thread below where just a few possible shapes and uses are included.
