Can we please have the possibility to set bigger canvas size to incorporate large sized artwork.
(Please note: This item is NOT for more number of artboards per document)

I've found this vote at the end of a 10 YEAR OLD thread of people saying they are STILL having this problem after encountering this issue today! WHAT IS GOING ON!!!
Surely someone at Adobe needs to fix this now. I'm working on a 18ft x 3ft board (not even that big really) and have the same "dimensions out of range" when NOTHING is outside the artwork bleed area. WHAT!!!
SOMEONE FIX THIS!!!!

This is such an obvious improvement to the software, I cannot comprehend why it hasn't been acted upon.
For those of us who use illustrator to design real life, large scale projects, this small fix would earn a great deal of appreciation.
Workarounds breed errors.

Let's do it, let's make this happen we all are claiming for this feature. Why not Adobe?

I understand that some folks commenting here want to stay with scaling down the artwork but this issue has been a problem since illustrator 88, we need to be able to make artwork at 1:1 scale no matter how big it is. This program is the industry standard for vector artwork creation and design and should have no limitations as to the size of the artwork you can create. I work in the convention/exhibition industry and when you get artwork that is scaled down to fit the outdated limitations set by the size limit for artboards half the time the give you half scale artwork with 100dpi images. well that wont work because 50dpi or less images at full size is going to look terrible. We need to bring this program up to the year 2018. I have asked adobe at conventions, on social media and here on their own forums for years, to make this happen. I started asking back in the 1990s folks and they still have not done it. Why can photoshop make unlimited file sizes but illustrator cannot? vector>raster folks. Make this happen. it's been too long and none of us LOYAL end-users want anything to do with Coreldraw... please change this asap. today. right now!

I am making it my own personal crusade to make sure this happens. I'll run or office if I have to.
******** and Micah are on point. Us large-scale designers are being left in the dust for the new crop of UX boneheads.
I have sympathy for the team at Illustrator because I'm assuming this is some kind of baked-in limitation from 1987 when you had to run it on 128k of RAM. But what is a challenge if not something to overcome and be all the better for it?
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

Please remove canvas size limit or vastly increase it. We design tradeshow booths that are modularly built with hardwall panelling, panels are usually just under a meter wide (963mm) and we often have 5+ panels in a row to make up a wall with art that spans across all the panels. When working on the art I will set up a document with an artboard for each panel that needs to be printed and set up the document so the gap between each artboard is the same distance as it will be physically when the panels are set up. I need to be confident in the artwork that I hand off to our printer as the printing process can make up a large chunk of the cost of our clients booth, so working in 1:1 scale is crucial .

Working at a scaled size is not ideal. It's called compromise (with an arbitrary limit). It's better to work at the appropriate size, so that it doesn't need to be scaled up for output. Just saying.

It’s called a “Workaround” but you can call it whatever you want; Working in scale, adjusting to limitations, or paying more while getting less.
No one is saying they cannot function because of this limitation, we are simply expressing why should we work within this limitation when other less mainstream applications have no such limitations?

its called working at a scaled size. as long as it is something normal (half, quarter, tenth) it does the trick.
if you must work at a ridiculous size use mm as your unit instead of cm (if 1 mm = 1 cm you are at 1/10 scale)

This is still a problem in 2018. Where is Adobe's input on this? Everyone on notice for this suggestion thread needs to bump it. Let's flood Adobe!!!
1000 art boards isn't the solution. Indesign takes care of that. I don't think there are many people using Illustrator to create multi page catalogs, and if they are then they are using the wrong app for that. People need to be able to design art for banners, flags, airplanes, boats, cars etc at full size. This makes no sense to me why there would be limits. While a scaling fatorizer would be a nice feature, it's not the solution. It's a work around.
Adobe Illustrator is supposed to be the de facto of design applications but yet it consistently leaves its users wanting when other programs have had these basic and common sense features for decades. Here is your "More Info": No, a workaround is not adequate.

Remove the pasteboard/canvas limit. There is no need to limit users to scaling. This is the top problem for Illustrator and it has been a thorn in my side for the past 20 years.
