Hi Everyone,
Thanks for this feedback. This has been avialble since June 2020 release (version 24.2). Now, when you’ll select a single object/group, Align To setting will default to Align To Artboard.

Hi Everyone,
All the effect checkboxes have now been set to ON by default, and are sticky (meaning that if you disable preview, on next launch of Illustrator preview will remain disabled). This functionality now is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now.

As per the comment, this can be done by clicking one of the selected objects to define it a key, to make all other object in the selection to align to this key.
Other apps rely on order of selection, and this is something users request to able to toggle here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/39711583
As for the Align to Artboard switch — it is useful when you have a selection of objects and want to align all of them to an artboard. In these cases the default mode Illustrator enables is Align to Selection, and you have to toggle it manually.

Remove the pasteboard/canvas limit. There is no need to limit users to scaling. This is the top problem for Illustrator and it has been a thorn in my side for the past 20 years.

Fill should always be the default attribute when choosing a color as fills are by far more common to design than strokes.
The way Illustrator treats fills ans strokes as equally important is very inefficient and has NO benefit to the user. No other design software outside of Adobe forces their user to do this. It needs to be fixed for sure, though I have little hope for Adobe changing this.
