Drag to "bevel" a shape.
I'd like to have a bevel tool.
One for "Below" and one for "On top"
Shown here is the "Below" version, dragged straight and at a 45º angle.

For anyone who wants this right now, please try AG Block Shadow tool from AstuteGraphics plugins pack. It feels and works exactly how we need it.

Yes! I used to work in the sign industry and the sign program had a shadow tool that did this as live. You could change the angle or it could be perspective shadow or a drop shadow. The program is called flexisign. Why illustrator could never do this I have never understood. Trying to do this with the blend tool takes to many steps and the edge is not smooth. You can do this and create one path instead of merging many. It also, needs to have an option to add an outline or a space between type/object or not. We use this alot in apparel graphic design.

But this is not a bevel there is an extrude, the blend work similar but don't like the little staggered after expand the blend

This is something that would make me happy and make my life easier. Please include this feature, I can't stress enough how great this would be.

I'm sure lots will argue the blend tool works in a similar enough way but that is absolutely false, it produces jagged stepped increments instead of interpolating between two points like a proper 2D extrude. The blend tool is great but it doesn't do this task well! Freeform gradients were neat but I'd happily ditch them for a proper 2D extrude any day!

I believe that's an extrusion. A bevel cuts into the edges of an object evenly (usually) around the perimeter of its face.

I would better like this as a live effect. The most preferable way — is a tool that creates live effect, which ten can be edited.
