Chromebook / ChromeOS compatibility
My school is considering purchasing a laser cutter/engraver to be housed in the Library for all students to use, and I understand that we will also need to purchase software such as Adobe Illustrator. The problem is that many of our students use Chromebooks, which really don't have a hard drive. We're not in favor of just having 1 or 2 Windows machines sitting by the cutter/engraver, mostly because that limits usage. Is there any other option? Does Adobe offer a Chromebook-compatible software? Or, is there any way that a student could design something in another program, then import it into Adobe Illustrator to send it to the cutter/engraver?
Or is it possible to use Adobe Illustrator on a Chromebook?
If there's no other option, is Chromebook compatibility coming soon?
Thoughts?
Thank you!

I've tried Photoshop (photoshop.adobe.com) web beta on Chrome Linux, no problem.
Then i've tried Illustrator Beta web (illustrator.adobe.com) on Chrome Linux, and it says "need Chrome Mac or Chrome Windows", so I've changed navigator agent to Windows and it says "need WebGL" (with WebGL active).
Please, make it work on any OS Chrome.

@Lee Thanks for your comments. Web version currently does not work on Chromebook. Web version is in beta phase (testing with users), and slowly we'll roll it out it on Chromebook too. Since Chromebook are low on processing power, we are working on optimizing the code to make Illustrator web run on these devices smoothly.

We have been using illustrator for many years and when we found out that there was now a web version, (which is really good) we were extremely happy about this and thought adobe has now nailed this market with a complete solution.
What we thought we could now do was to visit customers with our Chromebooks (less expensive hardware) to demonstrate work, or if we needed to to update a bit of the artwork we could do this whilst being away from the office.
The problem is currently the web version does not support chrome browser on a Chromebook, only chrome on a Windows or Mac machine, making the web version effectively redundant for us. if for the web version you still need a windows or mac machine that will have the desktop version already installed on why would you use the web version?
Am i missing something or is this just a fundamental oversight?
I hope this is just a first step for the web version and it will continue to be developed -
Fair. ChromeOS Chrome browser is not a supported browser, and the page clearly tells this: OS should be Windows or MacOS, not Chrome OS.
Sadly, I do not know about the plans to make it work there, but it feels like an OK thing, and a request rather than a bug report.
Thanks anyway! -

Illustrator Web (http://preview.illustrator.adobe.com/) is not working on the Chrome Browser on ChromeOS (version 119.0.6045.192). User is directed to the error page showing Unsupported Browser message when the user clicks Quick Start, or Templates or Popular Dimensions or Upload a file. Please see attached screen for the reference.

Corel has a browser based vector editing program called CorelVector. It probably won't send the files to the laser, but could help the students with the design if they are all on chromebooks. I'm thinking that a dedicated PC or Mac at the laser will be the way to go because the usage will be limited to one job at a time anyway.

A browser version of Illustrator is being developed, but is still in Beta.
Photoshop on the Web is already available, you can try it out.
As for other apps — time will tell! -

Have online versions of the Adobe Software would be really useful, if using a chromebook for example

I checked everything but forgot one important thing when i bought a chromebook. Not incapable for adobe pruducts. So a chromwbook is totally useless.

Yes, I 1000% agree! I'm traveling so often that I figured a Chromebook would best suit my needs. I absolutely LOVE my Chromebook, besides the fact that I can no longer use most Adobe products and features. Please release some Web-based version soon!

With many schools and individuals going entirely Web-based, we are unable to use the Illustrator/other Adobe tools on Chromebooks, tablets, etc. There is a real need for this, especially as schools implement makerspaces. Even beyond that, the world is so very Web-based now. I think Adobe is behind the times.
