We need custom font filters / tags / folders
We have Favorites in Font Family drop-down list, but that's not enough. Allow us to create our own custom filters / tags / folders and manage them.
This is an area where many teams at Adobe are exploring ways to make it easier for users to discover and use fonts. Stay tuned.

Add customizable font classification function.
You can create folders in the font menu and categorize them yourself. -

Please add the function of classifying fonts using folders in the font menu, so that users can classify font styles by themselves.

Adobe Illustrators' font directory is vast and intuitive. Its filtering and preview tools are amazing. However, it can be so much more if it were even more manageable and even easier to navigate. I'd love to be able to take advantage of managerial tools and organizational features that enable me to manage and organize my extensive font collection. Being able to create custom folders and organize various font collections and types accordingly would drastically improve my creative workflow and reduce the time it takes to navigate desired fonts. I'd like to skip any third-party applications that offer this font-organizational feature because it's effectivity isn''t maximized unless it's implemented directly with Adobe Illustrator.
I.e I'd like to be able to create a custom folder named 'Modern', and add every font desired to this specific folder, for easier access in future works.
I'd like to suggest the third-party font manager application 'FontBase' for reference to a wide array of other very useful font management features that would take Adobe Illustrators' [Type, Fonts, Text] to the next level.
Thank you for your consideration Adobe!

Being able to layer or organize into groups the fonts you have on your computer. The narrowing system currently does not always include all downloaded fonts.

It might be helpful to be able to create folders inside the character panel's font menu to help organize fonts. I don't always remember the name of a certain font, and having my own folders would be a quick way to find what I need.

@Skilltech, it has been merged with an older request about the same thing, which had more votes. When this happens, the post is converted to a comment and all attachments are also merged.

Thanks Egor. But why did my attachment (illustrator-font-tags.jpg) move out of my post?

A gorgeous mockup, mate!

Font TAGS INSIDE ILLUSTRATOR's FONTS MENU (not in CC). An extension to the fonts menu with an ability to create CUSTOM font tags and easily find "those" fonts you always waste too much time finding.
I can't stress enough how important is to LET DESIGNERS CREATE THEIR OWN TAGS. No predetermined Adobe tags!
Example: Tag a font with an e.g. "Slanted" custom tag, then click on "Slanted" tag in the Tags menu and only the "Slanted" fonts would be listed.
Additional info:
There would be options to:
• Create new font tags
• Assign existing (or new) tags to a selected font
• Filter fonts by tag(s)
• Select filtering type (correlation)For multiple tags applied, there would be a "Correlation" switch button for filtering, with options "And" and "Or". Let's say we select tags "Tag A" and "Tag B", then:
• "Or" option would show both "Tag A" tagged fonts and "Tag B" tagged fonts
• "And" option would only show fonts that have both "Tag A" AND "Tag B" tagsSEE DEMO IMAGE BELOW

Since you have added the Star system to set favorite fonts, it would be an amazing addition if we could create custom lists and add as many fonts as we need to filter them according to our designs and our personal style. That way we will save tones of time by filtering very easy what we need.

The new "Find more," under the character tab, is awesome, and it would be really cool if there were a way to apply various colored highlights to fonts I'm interested in per project, so I can easily access my alternate 'maybe fonts' without having to add them to favorites, or remember them as I scroll by, which has become pretty impossible, given all there is to choose from under this new feature. Love the new "find more"...thanks so much.

Not likely to be addressed. Font management has its own corner of the market already with a pretty devoted set of users. Google it for some top options. If you're on a Mac and want something easy and cheap but better than Fontbook (default), I recommend Typeface—well worth the $10.

The Character panel is a pain ********** when you are searching fonts for an artwork. It would be cool and save us a lot of time if you could integrate some sort of font manager into this panel, so you could browse easily, so you could save preferred font list with the document (this feature would be really cool - when you open a file, it shows you a list of fonts to work with. If a font is missing then you are going trough the same process as with the fonts contained in the document).
Also, when you mark a font as Favorite, would be much nicer if you could mark a Style also. It's a painstalking job to choose a Style from a font that has a doezen of styles.
Also, a nice feature would be to allow custom folder grouping for fonts and style, a grouping that saves with the document. -

I own a design company and also work for a UPS store part time and have hundreds of downloaded fonts on the computers I use. I'd love to be able to easily sort my fonts into categories (at least serif, sans serif) so I can navigate through them faster.

User should be able to create their own custom font groups, which can be hidden, rearranged by drag & drop similar to layers.
For Example; User Category 1 - Contains Font 1, Font 2, Font 3...
User Category 2 - Contains Font 4, Font 5, Font 6...
