Make keyboard shortcuts work for different input languages
I'd love to see an update that lets me use the same physical keys for shortcuts while I have a different keyboard than English selected.
For example, the backslash key () is used for the line tool. But when switching to German, the same physical key returns (#) and in Romanian we have a (â).
I wish that all shortcuts activated by the press of the physical keys work as intended in the interface regardless of the language currently active so I don't have to switch so much between languages just to have my shortcuts work again.
This could work by letting users assign more than one character in the keyboard shortcut panel, so that I can input manually all the characters I need and resolve any conflicts.
Of course this feature could be extended to all Adobe software.

This has always annoyed me as well. I want to be able to have two separate language options: One for the interface, and another for the shortcuts.

I want this in all Adobe apps. I always use the english version of Adobe apps, but use a swedish keyboard.
There should be two language settings: One for the interface, and one for the keyboard shortcuts.

I haven't tried using the language bar. Currently what worked for me is this --> https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/a/159540/137935

Łukasz, does checking 'Let me use a different input method for each app window' and changing the input language for the active Illustrator window via the language bar, as the the latest comment in the topic you shared suggests, help?

Diactric marks like `ąęłćżńźó` not working with keyboard shortcut
Is there any possibility to be able to write using alt + [] to make diactric marks (Polish) , while having Adobe Illustrator in English language?
Using for example `alt + e` only results in starting export command. After choosing "Polish" language in Characters options, shortcuts still not working.
After choosing "Polish" in Document setup > Type, shortcuts still not working.
Note that everything is fine in Photoshop or InDesign or other applications in my OS.
OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
OS Language: English US
OS Keyboard settings: Polish programmer
Illustrator Version: 26.5.2PS. Changing program language is not an option

Same, I use English versions of as application language but have a Danish keyboard so shortcuts using characters such as square brackets, tilde, etc. are unavailable for me

Same. I always prefer to use English as application language whenever possible for several reasons (weird translations to German and/or looking for tips, bugs tutorials whatever, it's always easier ;-)
Would be great all around the whole CC.

When installing Illustrator (or ID, PS, …) in a specific language/region, only the corresponding keyboard shortcuts are installed. But not everyone working with en_GB als language also uses a keyboard with that layout.
For example, I'm used to have my whole system set to English as interface language, but I use keyboards with Swiss German and Swiss French layouts. This makes more than half of the default shortcuts unusable and reassigning each an every shortcut every time a major revision is released is a major pain.
The keyboard shortcuts are small text files, packing all languages with every install won't make a huge difference in size but a huge difference in convenience for everyone working with different languages.
An alternative: put all keyboard shortcut presets up for download on the corresponding support page, that already offers cheat-sheet PDFs for every language.
Thanks.

Hello! Since I have a swedish keyboard I cant use the shortcut for arranges. So Ctrl + [ for arrange backwards wont work since my [ is located on the number 8 button and not on a seperate button as it is on a uk/us keyboard. Would be really nice if this also worked on european keyboards! :)

Very much yes.
I had to build custom Autohotkey script to mitigate this. -

I have been using InDesign for many years now, and I have been able to choose Danish shortcuts. However, I can't in Illustrator. This also applies to other languages than just Danish. The keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator are based on an English keyboard. It is very frustrating, and it hinders my workflow because I have to resort to the menu. I have asked for this a very long time, and I am very disappointed that this simple, innocuous capability is not present in Illustrator, but it is in InDesign.

on mac - keyboard shortcuts (i.e. T for text or I for Eyedroper) works only if the keyboard is set to ENGLISH input. if one switches to HEBREW or ARABIC he cannot use shortcuts.
this problem is not an issue on PC. just in MAC. please adress it!
