Keyboard crashes
When using the type tool and you tap the keyboard to bring up the keyboard it sometime crashes.

Need more information here – does the application crashes while brining up the keyboard or is it that the keyboard collapses as soon as you bring it up?

It’s not crashing in the sense that the program stops in its tracks. Instead, it just doesn’t register that you’re inputting words. It allows you to select text to edit, but then the whole app behaves like it’s possessed. Instead of neatly typing words into the text box, the app suddenly decides your keyboard is only for “shortcuts.”
So, nearly every letter you type sends the app spiraling through tools and settings. I passionately hate every keyboard shortcut, but I have no choice but to endure this bug on an app I pay for. What makes it worse is that there’s absolutely no way to disable keyboard shortcuts in the settings—and from the look of the first comment, it’s been five years and you still haven’t found or fixed the bug.

Yes! Exactly the same is happening to me too. Keyboard rarely opens on ipad.

Keyboard shortcuts are working but the actual keyboard won’t type anything. Also the virtual keyboard will not pull up either.

My biggest problem with Illustrator iPad is the keyboard. It almost never opens!

Your keyboard won't type issue could happen just because your keyboard or the system that your computer is running gets stuck somehow. Once your keyboard is not working, you can firstly restart your computer. A simple restart can always solve computer woes.

Yeah I’m having this same problem. I have close the app completely to bring up the on screen keyboard for typing. The keyboard won’t come up otherwise . Sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn’t.

It freezes when I bringing up the keyboard.
I tap the type tool, then tap the area you wish to type, then tap the keyboard to start typing and it then freezes. Then switching between the full bottom onscreen keyboard and the mini floating keyboard is a pain. Once to are in the mini keyboard it won't switch back. I am using the 2nd generation iPad Pro 12.9.
