Place Link Cloud PSD file in Cloud Ai document
Now, you can place-link cloud PSDs (.psdc file format) in your Illustrator cloud document (.aic file format).
On Desktop:
Links Panel will now display an additional cloud icon for PSDs placed from Cloud.
Additionally, in Illustrator cloud file, we now save a low-resolution image of linked-assets (of both local assets on your machine and PSDCs in Cloud). So if a linked-asset goes missing (path changed or deleted), instead of showing an empty box in your Illustrator file, we will now display a low-resolution image of that asset.
On iPad:
Status of the linked PSDC (missing/broken link) will be displayed on the asset itself. We are also introducing a contextual links panel to perform quick actions (Relink, Update, Embed Link).
Please share your feedback/thoughts on place-linking in cloud Ai files in this thread. Ability to place-link other formats (png/jpg/eps/etc) will be delivered soon too.

I wonder if the mechanism of low-res linking can be broadened to work with local links instead.
InDesign can allow users to decrease the quality of displayed images to speed up the process, and it helps when you work with fat PSDs. Will it ever come into Ai?
We can link lowres copies ourselves, but it’s tedious when you have dozens of them. Forget to relink one and you are in a trouble.

Thanks Hiroshi, very helpful.

Dear Varun
Regarding accessing psdc and aic from Finder and Explorer: I find the dialog stressful when linking multiple psd files one by one. It would be great if I could link psdc files by dragging and dropping them from a floating palette (or bridge) like in a cloud browser, while checking the file name and thumbnail.
Regarding ability to convert documents with existing psd files linked to them to aic and psdc: We would like to be able to choose whether or not to upload the linked psd files as psdc. If I choose to upload them, it would feel more familiar to me if they were saved in a folder named Links in the same hierarchy as the aic files, like the package feature, and it would be easier for me to understand where the uploaded data is.
Thank you.

Thanks Hiroshi for the feedback.
Regarding accessing psdc and aic from FInder and Explorer: This is currently not in plans, but it's a great point for us to discuss.
Regarding ability to convert documents with existing psd files linked to them to aic and psdc: There will be an option to upload ai file as aic. If that file has a psd linked, psd won't be uploaded to cloud (at least not yet). Do you expect that when you upload an ai file which has a psd linked, psd should also get uploaded to cloud. If yes, how would you like for that psd to be stored (in the same folder as you aic file or in some other folders or something else).

It would be great to have the ability to convert documents with existing psd files linked to them to aic and psdc. Or script support would also be good.

Productivity will be even higher if aic and psdc can be accessed from Finder and Explorer, like Creative Cloud Files.
It would be nice to be able to place from Finder or Explorer instead of the dialog.
