Improved 3D effects and Adobe Substance materials
We have introduced new and improved '3D and Materials' effects in 26.0 this year. These effects have been fully rebuilt using modern rendering technology and apart from being much more stable than classic 3D effects, they also allow you to:
* Apply and edit 3D effects conveniently through a non-blocking panel with real time preview.
* Texture artwork using Adobe Substance 3D materials that are highly adjustable. Choose from built-in materials in the panel or upload your own.
* Light up artwork with environment and directional light along with shadows.
* Create smooth and curvy extrusions using the new Inflate option.
* Rotate artwork more easily using the new on-canvas controls.
* Once you've setup your 3D object, render it using Ray tracing with adjustable quality options.
There are more features we're actively working on bringing to these effects. Please share your feedback and suggestions from your experience of using these new effects.

There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:

All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.

Hi Egor, thank you for looking into it. Please let me know if/when you have an update.

@Naleson, it’s OK :) I am seeing the file and confirm the weird scaling. I will notify the team. Thanks!

@chegr Hi Egor, I see you replied to my comment below via e-mail but I can't find where to reply on the website so I'm responding here: here is my Illustrator file demonstrating my issue.

Sooooo, how do I save my Material setting? After changing the "Plastic Base" from blue to another color and adjusting the parameters, how does one save this setting?

When I use the 3D & Material effects and also want to use a bevel, the texture of my image immediately gets distorted when activating the Extrude mode.

my vector goes automaticly to pixels when I use 3D mode.

When creating objects that are much wider than tall, the right or left edges of the 3D effect is "cropped". In the attached example, you can see the far left (and right) side of the 3D object is missing, almost as if it's hitting a boundary. The problem goes away if the object width is reduced, but that's not how my artwork needs to be.

It would be beneficial if we could have a 'Remove all settings' button directly within the 3D tab, so that the shape can be reverted back to to a default object. Handy for duplicating the object and expanding stroke that can sit behind the 3D version.

It could be great if we could interact more in the 3D environment. Like in this case, having the object going foreground and background following the line

@Chitra Gopalakrishnan: There is an option in 3D Panel inside properties dropdown in Materials tab from where you can delete any material on to 3D object. Please check if that doesn't meet your expectation then please let us know.

@Peter Engle: This issue is known to us. We are working on fixing this soon. Kindly please share the ai file for the same, so that we can test at our end once we fixed this

Uh... Its doing some sort of weird graphical error where its tiling the thing im working on... When i expand it it just turns it into a png that looks like that.. i thought it was just a graphical error, but if i cant rasterize it or expand it to look like it should then thats a problem. also every time i change a setting the preveiw shows what its actually supposed to look like for a few seconds while it loads.

Love this update!! Would appreciate this feature with an option to remove certain materials from the list via a right-click menu or something similar. Maybe I'm missing that info from the panel, but would greatly help the work flow!

I used to be able to expand the appearance and change the color of the face of the 3d rendered text. But that is not possible as the colors are now rendered as a JPG mask. This even does not work when I change the rendered engine to vector. The auto setting makes the colors FAR too dark. Changing them is important to match a customer's pantone, etc. If this could be corrected that would be amazing!

I wish there was more control over colour adjustment once we turn our vector into a 3D object.

Loving the improvements. So far it is working great. Glad that perspective has been added.
