An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Dan, I understand the confusion, but I think I have an explanation for this. Please follow me:
1. Select two area text objects together, one with ordinary lowercase font, another with the small-caps styled font.
2. Go to Type > Area Type Options. Make sure you have Preview option enabled.
3. Take a look at the First Baseline option — it should be Ascent, since it’s the default option for a new area type object (unfortunately, there is no way to change this default parameter to be something else — and there is now a separate feature request for this, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47243432)
4. 'Ascent' stands for the maximum height of all ascenders the font has. You can imagine a small-caps font has a few. If you change the value to 'x Height' — you’ll get a correct result instantly, same as 'Cap Height'
Changing Font Height Options in the Character panel does not and should not influence the position of the first line of an area type text, it’s a separate parameter.
You can read more about Area Type Options here: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/manage-text-area.html
Does it make any sense? or is it me missing something? Please reply! -

An error occurred while saving the comment There is a separate larger entry about the first problem: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/33466396-make-recent-fonts-section-in-character-palette-w
I suggest you vote there. So far you can just disable the Recent Fonts section altogether to avoid the focus jumping back, by setting Number of Recent Fonts to 0 in Preferences > Type.As for the second problem — I don’t exactly recall when the results list got modified the way you describe it. I recall in CS6 and earlier it just had not the dynamic dropdown with the filtered results, it was just putting the closest match into the filed wile you type, basically autosuggesting. I find a new method more useful... Can you share more details on this — when do you remember Ai had it? Can you provide some screenshots?
Also — please try to log one problem per report/request. Clumping these together makes prioritization harder, and UV does not really support splitting.

An error occurred while saving the comment Lucas, does it happen in every file or in this particular one?
Are you the author of this file of was it given to you by another user? The problem with names of layers in Ai is that the names get omitted on export in favor of numbers only if no changes were made to them manually. If you rename the layer and give it 'Artboard 1' name — it is considered renamed and now it has a defined name instead of an undefined one. This leads to the same exact behavior you describe, at least for me. There is no way to tell these names apart in the UI!
I reported and requested to address the problem here:
Make option for new artboards to track their names based on existing artboards
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/36673057-make-option-for-new-artboards-to-track-their-namesAdd ability to rebind artboard names to their numbers
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/32403832-add-ability-to-rebind-artboard-names-to-their-numb...but, yeah the problem is somewhat wider than these efforts to patch the leak.

An error occurred while saving the comment I reported a similar looking problem before, with a clipping mask applied to a layer, here:

An error occurred while saving the comment Did you get your file restored though?
Were you able to enable auto-recovery back in Preferences?
How large is your file? Do you have heavy linked images in it?
Did Ai told you the reason why it disables auto-recovery in that message? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Are you able to change the input language during renaming anything else? Layers, for example?
Do you rename directly in the panel or in the Artboard Options modal dialog? What about other modal dialogs, like Graphic Styles Options? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Illustrator is able to batch actions for a specified folder.
Open one SVG (or any other format) file.
Open Actions panel.
Create a new action (it also start recording it).
Run Save As and choose .ai format. Save the file.
Stop the action.
Then open the Actions panel’s flyout menu and locate Batch command (the very last item).
Make sure you have the correct set and the action chosen.
Choose the folder which have the files you want to convert to .ai
Specify all other options. You can also force another folder here — otherwise Ai will use the same folder you used to save the file while recording the action.
Hit OK and just let Ai to open and resave all the files one by one automatically for you.
Please reply back if it works. -

An error occurred while saving the comment When you email the project to sharewithai@adobe.com, please put the link to this report inside: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47218388
And you said nothing about the results of the test. So, are you able to remove a part of the design to make Ai export it as layered? Also — does thus 27.8.1 at this machine is able to export anything layered at all, form other files? An error occurred while saving the comment J, does anything change if you enable Maximum Editability option?
Does it also happen for any other document? If it does, can you please make a copy of this do and try to remove some parts of the design to see if it changes anything on export? If it eventually does — can you share this file directly with the team via sharewithai@adobe.com ?
Are you able to export the file with a previous version of Ai, or the Beta one?The script you are referring to (if it’s Ai2PSD one) utilizes the standard export procedures, and therefore is vulnerable in the same way, unfortunately.

I see. I might guess it uses a mixed approach to that, and uses both values. Small caps fonts don’t really have glyphs that actually touch the set ascender line, and Ai is somewhat correct by adjusting the first baseline to fit the 'actual' visible ascender line.
I encountered a somewhat similar here, with font height options and the rounded fonts: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/44639661-font-height-options-misbehave-with-rounded-fonts
I will let the developer know.
Thank you for the report!
