    It's such unnecessary and irritating behaviour. It clogs your real estate. If I want it open, I will open it, I don't need Illustrator to decide for me what panels should be open.

    This is finally addressed in the latest 30.8.0.7 Beta build, hooray!

    Clicking the soft area of a drop shadow (or any other raster effect region) no longer selects the object casting it. We can now click straight through the effect region to select whatever is behind it.

    Please check if it works for you and share if there are cases when you need the legacy behavior.

    This is really good to hear! Thanks for sharing the good news. I'm not on BETA, though, so will have to wait a while. For me there's no case whatsoever in which I would want the legacy behavior.
