It is not as straightforward as it may sound :) We have been working to take advantage of threads and other hardware such as GPU/Video RAM in places where it can make a higher impact. We are prioritizing areas that are slow instead of making a generic change and destabilizing the product. Product stability is the top priority for us and we have been consistently trying to improve it. We want to move with caution and make changes without compromising on the quality. Hope this helps.

People who felt the need for this functionality : Can you please highlight what is the underlying need/problem that you are trying to solve? Why you need to see swatches on your artboard / canvas?

I was thinking maybe Adobe should have a new Illustrator program, that has some of the new features that make it easier to draw for new users. They can mess with that all they want. Only put features into the main Illustrator when they work well, with no errors.
Keep the main Illustrator really steady, with no bugs, or constant updates.
