    UPDATE!
I'm not sure if this was a bad idea or brilliant.

Seeing as SOMEHOW I was able to get the Print.ai File keep Hyphenate OFF I opened Print.ai Changed the setting to be more "Web" - RGB, 1920x1080, Rulers pixel and Save that to my desktop as Web.ai.
I then replaced both Web.ai Presets. and it worked!

    1. ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator ##/en_US/New Document Profiles/Web.ai
    2. /Applications/Adobe Illustrator 2024/Support Files/New Document Profiles/en_US/Web.ai

Now if only someone from Adobe could do this for everyone else.

Other than those 3 main settings Colour, rulers and art board size is there something else I should be changing in this profile that i'm forgetting?

Kris, misconception or not. It's clear people are asking that Adobe set up illustrator for designers, not journalists. Not that it made sense in 1987, but we have InDesign for that now. They've had a decade to reevaluate their document profiles. Look at their customers needs and make adjustments. Remove the fluff, tweak this or that and be done.

Imagine if documents default Stroke setting was 10pt, default colour was a gradient, font was Times 20pt...etc.

Anyhow I have tried numerous times to FIX the hyphenation setting. Somehow, and Thankfully my Print.ai file seems to default to unchecked. But no matter what I do to save, save as, replace, delete, closed, open, custom, etc... the other files, Web, Mobile... hyphenate comes back.

Deleting all that "Cruft" is gone now :) so thats nice.

    Side Note:
In the Paragraph Pallet there is a Reset Pallet butting the hamburger. Clicking that turns ON the check box. That said, if one can find and fix that, we might be in business.

******** Adobe? really how can this still be a thing?

Are you waiting for an AI program to do this for you? This couldn't possibly be an easier KPI.

It's a Toggle for craps sake.
PLEASE PLEASE, just have your developer change it from true to false. it's all we ask!

    No Designer
    No illustrator
    No journalist
    No Typesetter
No PERSON would ever Choose to have Hyphenate as a default ON.

PLEASE turn this STUPID thing OFF!

What is the problem? As K-O asked please share perhaps ONE Challenge?

this whole forum is about providing feedback and suggestions. We don't expect everything to be covered, but you know:
400+ votes and 6 YEARS for a few minutes required to find a line of code to switch a 1 to a 0?!

    whats the word? Shameful?

    HAHA, Love that Kent!
Adobe prefers its products to be completely covered in band aid solutions!

What gets me, is Adobe is all about "graphic arts". I can only assume that they don't have any graphic artists there any more. Just engineers/programmers. Otherwise they'd know this is the is the opposite of what any designer would use.

The same can be said for InDesign. No journalist or novelist or any form of copy writer would choose hyphens over design and legibility.

Anyhow I no longer have to deal with the Stupid Hyphens... at least until they do an update and break the bandaid.

Until then we just keep the conversation going here. keeping it on top.

    @bradley,
I was able to make the default stay off after a few tricks. thanks to a couples on this forum

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/how-to-turn-off-automatic-hyphenation-permanently/m-p/13500747#M351981

Edit the Default Preset files in both Sub folders (a few steps here)
    Then
    Change preferences to Legacy

This worked for me two ways... Inches are now Default rather than points and that useless hyphen check box stays unchecked.

    @Egor Chistyakov @Neerja Nandkeolyar
I suggest you put this under preferences. Something that can be EASY to find, that will permanently work across all file types opened from the New Document window. (and same goes for InDesign)

Also, I suggest you UPDATE us. This was listed in 2017 13 Months Later was listed... and 5 years later still NOTHING on a nearly 400 Vote request. Honestly.

I mean to be rude, but what are you doing? This is a simple True/False check box!

OK, they've been "exploring" this True/False check box for 4 years.

Anyone of their programers from any adobe silo could make this change before breakfast.

I'm no programmer, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone could find this line in the code in the program package, to show us where to type False.

for the last year or two, I've had to switch to CPU usage in illustrator.

if I don't stuff just disappears. usually on larger files. I don't have rendering issues in PS even when files are GB+

I just gave this a try on a Black and white ad… so many things went wrong.

    1. the Preview was darker I though this maybe a standard mac problem as when opened inside illustrator the colours were the same, but in Acrobat it was still darker.
    2. when comparing the fonts, they were not the exact same. slightly different
    3. the boarder had a little white edging on it, not evenly.

this is where i learned how to do that.

perhaps these are not the best steps?
