This issue arises due to problems with Apple's graphic rendering pipeline on older versions of macOS and has been resolved by Apple in macOS 13 and above. We request you to update your macOS to13 and above to fix this issue.
Justin Taylor supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Justin Taylor commentedWhen selecting with GPU preview turned off, the selection color doesn't match the layer color, it is just gray, and missing parts of the selection as well. We have verified this issue on multiple Macs, so far we have only seen the issue on macOS Monterey. We are running Illustrator v 26.4.1. See attached screenshots, the one with red selection is with GPU turned on, the other one is with it turned off.

An error occurred while saving the comment Justin Taylor commentedSomething common we've found is this happens on files with Myriad Pro. Our workaround has been changing to a different font so we can save the file, then clean the font cache and change the font back.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 24.3.0 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!
An error occurred while saving the comment Justin Taylor commentedAgreed, still an issue in 24.2.3, we've had to downgrade back to a previous version because of it.

I was able to reproduce this on a couple of M1 machines that we have too, same exact created date and modified date. As a workaround we ended up opening Illustrator with Rosetta (Right click Illustrator in the Applications Folder and open Get Info, and check the box to open with rosetta). When we did that it shows the dates correct
