Illustrator forgets which color mode is set in the Color palette (and Gradient)
Color panel always starts with RGB values. That's useless or very hard to use 99% of the time. So first thing for me is to set my Color panel to HSB and it stays like that for that session, but after a restart it's RGB again. Always!
Gradient panel is even worse because it forgets instantly.
Standard gradient's pop up color select is a Grayscale slider. I've never in my life needed that - not to mention HSB has the same with the value slider. But this bothers me less than what follows:
If I change Grayscale to HSB and do anything (click away, select same object again) it goes to what? RGB. Always.
Please make this consistent and make AI remember my color mode choice permanently (until purposeful change)
I don't dare to ask for HSB as the default program-wise, but to be honest that would be the best.
Hi Everyone,
The fix for this request is available in our latest release build – 27.3. The version is being rolled out.

2 years later... yep.
This still matters as much as ever.

Agreed! This would be extremely helpful. RBG colorspace should allow a global HSB option for all swatches. HSB is much better and most of us think in those terms. It would improve my workflow as well.

The colour palette always switches back to the default RGB which is frustrating and disturbs workflow. I would like the ability to set a default colour slider, based on the slider you are using in your current project. I mostly use HSB.

Doesn't matter with what color pallet you work with... it should stick to whatever you choose from the top-right mini-menu option... not like it is right now that it mandatory switches back to document color mode handles

When I'm trying to edit gradient color handle (double click), and switch color mode to eg. HSB, from top-right menu, after editing the handle color again it's always switch back to document color mode specific. Example - I'm working on RGB color mode and I want to make few gradients that differ in brightness and saturation. The easiest way to manipulate the colors is with HSB handlers, so I change the edit color mode (the tooltip menu after you double click the specyfic color on the gradient bar - similar to color window) to HSB from the top-right mini-menu, but when I'm trying to edit another color on the gradient bar I get the RGB handles again, and again I have to switch to HSB which is really annoing. I think the color edit pallet should stay as I choose - same as it is in 'color window'

Pathetic and faulted design choice and this has been going on for over a decade. What kind of interface designers does Adobe employs? Shame on them.

I agree with @Anonymous.

I work with RGB web-based color libraries predominantly, as do my users. This should be a configuration option in personal preferences, not a general change.

Indeed. It's good to know it's not just me being driven nuts by this.

Yes! Enough with this reset to RGB sliders insanity. And make the #HEX box common, why do we always and forever have to change to RGB to get it? It's infuriating.

I'd like a preference to to set a default color picker for ALL PURPOSES, regardless of what the document's color mode may be. In my case, I'd ALWAYS be choosing colors with the HSB sliders.

I would also like there to be a way to make color model selection more universal - such as mentioned, if you have chosen HSB in the color picker that then becomes the default for new colors and color menus that appear. Also would love to see the ability to toggle between color picker and color swatches everywhere - the only place I believe it currently is found implemented that way is in the gradient color stops. Most of the time I'll work with HSB, and would love it not to have to select HSB each time or place the color swatch menu is accessed, especially in the Appearances panel. I will also post this in feature requests.
