text align vertically
Allow text to be vertically centered in text box.
In InDesign, there is an option in the text frame properties, "Vertical Justification", with a "Center" option.
Or, the "baseline shift" option could be split into either specifying a number, as it is now, or specifying "center in text box".
This option is very important sometimes, such as having a tag symbol (e.g. circle) with a label inside that is either 1 or 2 lines high. Right now I have to have 2 paragraph styles (1 for 1-line text and 1 for 2-line text) so the 1 line text is in the middle of the tag, but also the 2 line text is also centered in the tag.
Hi Everyone,

Come on Adobe, please just add this feature! I felt like an idiot searching all over for something that doesn't exist.

The simplest of features, yet Adobe would rather concentrate on 3D, perspective, warp, rotation, flipping, etc. This should have been introduced years ago.

Can anyone in Adobe justify why it doesn't exist in Illustrator?

I would hope that everyone following this thread responds in the negative to the survey that occaisionally appears when opening one of their apps. It should be available in any of their apps where text is incorporated (i.e., everything).

Please make this happen... such a hinderance... Want to have more powerful control of area type native to Illustrator not just InDesign, please!

oi apparently I am not the only one that was feeling rather dumb not being able to find this feature when I was trying to have circles with centered numbers inside of them... crazy...
Adobe Folks... anyone reading this??? -

Hopefully this will become a feature soon as this isn't the only thread on this matter.

Very interesting that this doesn't exist. I might have to begin using PowerPoint to finish documents ;-)

I was just looking around for this since I knew it existed in InDesign. I'm really surprised that this doesn't exist.

It is absolutely insane that this doesn't exist. (But kind of a relief, as I just spent 10 minutes trying to find the way to do it...which I never would have, as it isn't there!)

I like trying out new tools, but I tend to stick with Adobe for all of my actual work. The fact that Illustrator lacks this feature, though, is mind boggling. I'm working on a graph, and I want the labels to be vertically aligned with their hash marks. I have to eyeball it.
Just fired up Affinity Designer for the first time in months, and you can easily snap text to a line, in the top, center, or bottom. You guys.

I’ve been looking all over to find where the vertical justification button is, and now I find that it doesn’t even exist? I don’t understand, you have it in Keynote and everywhere else!

The thing I really want is to be able to vertically align a text object to a box or frame according to the text object's capital letter height. It's very difficult to do that accurately in Adobe Illustrator without converting the text to outlines and then manually centering the elements. This is very basic stuff for things like sign design. For something like a name plate label the text object has to be aligned on the background piece according to the capital letter height.

Please, please, please, allow us to vertically align (justify) text in a text box.

Adobe is embarrassing!

In InDesign, it has the option to align the text (top, center or bottom inside the text box). It would be nice to have it in Illustrator as well because of multiple background designs.

We seriously need this feature. It's 2018. A graphics software with worldwide recognition and global usage for all things design SHOULD have this. No brainer.

How does Excel have such a basic feature and yet Illustrator doesn't. If there is a quick and easy way to align text in a box like Excel, I would love to know.
