Data merge like Indesign
It would be nice if you could have the data merge function like in Indesign so you can import .csv-files.

The Data Merge function in Adobe Illustrator is so primitive, it is barely useful...actually it is for the most part: unuseful.
On more than one occassion, I "Loaded" the IDENTICAL Variable Library file to the same .AI file...and sometimes .AI accepts the file and sometimes it just displays an "The incoming library is invalid" message.
The same UNHELPFUL diagnostic appears to be the only thing displayed if there is the slightest error in the Variable Library File...and even if there isn't.
Illustrator's Data Merge should have more informative error messages that explain why a Variable Library File is being rejected.
For example:
Invalid characters in line 5 near position 34.
Missing data in lines 7, 10, 16.
Too many fields in line 2.
Missing line feed at end of file. -

Yeah it's there, Adobe just doesn't make the feature particularly apparent. Naming the feature "variables" instead of something everyone is familiar with like "data/data merge/etc." is a bit beyond me. So just do that—rename the stupid feature and high-five yourselves :)

There is DataSets please see:
