Export for screens should exclude template layers
When exporting for screens, any layers which are set as template or non-printing should be excluded from the output without having to first turn off that layer.

Ditto!

Agreed. This is a stupid oversight that still hasn't been fixed after many years.

If a layer has the Template box checked, or if it has the Print checkbox unchecked, then anything on that layer should not be exported during an Export to Screens operation... yet it does export.

It's a very frustrating omission, especially when designing for dark screens. If there's a specific reason for it not behaving like this, it would be great to at least have an option to toggle the behaviour.

Seems to me as a bug that should be fixed.

Huge bug that makes Export for Screens useless. Save for web works as expected.

This happens to me too.
When exporting by using save for web (Legacy) it does not happen. So I think even for PNG - Template layers should not be exported and it is a bug. -

This happens for me too but only when exporting pngs.
When exporting a jpg/tif/pdf/psd the template layers are not included in the output, as is expected.Possibly related problem from a couple years ago: https://forums.adobe.com/message/10752642#10752642
I talked to Adobe support about this and their answer was basically that pngs are transparent so all the layers show up and that's just the way it works.
So essentially, if you're making pngs, template layers are useless.
