An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedYes, it looks like Adobe have gone part way to addressing our needs but have made it worse in the process. The latest version (24.2.1) sets the path to the source file’s location regardless of whether a different path was set previously. I encountered this yesterday, rushing to output edits to assets and expecting them to overwrite the earlier output but finding instead that I had to re-set the export path.
Three groups of people need to be accommodated: those (like me) who want the path to be saved in the file so that each file remembers its own specific export location; those (like Lucas Bianchetti, below) who want every export to be directed to one specific location; and perhaps also a few people who always want their output to be in the same location as the source file.
The last of these is probably the smallest constituency, yet this is the solution given us in the latest version.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedThanks Varun, that’s very good news. These are nuisances I encounter daily.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedWhat I want is confidence that when I open a file and export assets, the export location will the the same folder as the last time I exported from that file, regardless of how many other exports I’ve done in the meantime from other files to other locations.
Additional:
- the export dialog should display the full path without having to tab into the field
- the export format settings should be saved with the file, not as a global setting
- the optional prefix should be specific to the file and saved with it
- the list of assets should show filenames in full when the window is expandedThere are feature request on all these going back to 2018 at least.
In fact it turns out I posted about the problem with filename length back in 2017
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/32695579-asset-export-panel-list-view-clips-filenames-to-apIt would also be good to get some attention on the long-standing request regarding export presets:

An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedThe Home Screen lists recent files sorted by "last modified" even when those files have not been modified.
The list actually shows the files which were last *viewed* (or last closed), regardless of whether the file has been modified.
It would be useful to have both these options, but the current situation is wrong and misleading.

Dear Users,
We have launched this feature in the latest release of Illustrator, 24.2. I request you to try out this feature and give us your feedback.
Thanks,
SanjitAn error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedI’m working on a set of illustrations for 1080p screen size. So I open a 1080p template, and duplicate the artboard, once, twice, three times, four t… ah, it’s hit the canvas limit.
Yes of course I can rearrange the artboards within the canvas limits, but it’s a nuisance, and even if I start the first artboard at the left edge of the canvas it will only allow eight artboards horizontally.
I'm working in pixels.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commented@Keith, I've just done your experiment with the following results:
Illustrator document
- FileSizeTest-1in.ai: 1,133,720 bytes (1.1 MB on disk)
- FileSizeTest-220in.ai: 1,134,304 bytes (1.1 MB on disk)Illustrator EPS with embedded 8-bit TIFF preview
- FileSizeTest-1in.eps: 951,233 bytes (958 KB on disk)
- FileSizeTest-220in.eps: 8,819,797 bytes (9.5 MB on disk)Illustrator EPS without embedded preview
- FileSizeTest-1in-nopreview.eps: 938,945 bytes (946 KB on disk)
- FileSizeTest-220in-nopreview.eps: 939,066 bytes (946 KB on disk)PDF with Illustrator default settings
- FileSizeTest-1in.pdf: 78,567 bytes (82 KB on disk)
- FileSizeTest-220in.pdf: 78,700 bytes (82 KB on disk)So the only options where there is any material difference in file size is with EPS with embedded preview.
I haven't tested a file with a placed and embedded raster image, but in any case when we create graphics in any software we generally need to be aware of file sizes, so Illustrator is no different in this respect.
I therefore propose that the file-size argument is a side issue and has no bearing on the matter of canvas size.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedI honestly hit this problem at least once a week. Today I'm making a range of logos which are set to 2400px wide, so I've got three artboards in a row and want to duplicate one, but I can't because it suddenly hits the canvas limit, so I have to fiddle around rearranging my artboards on the canvas. It's nothing to do with file size, this is just a little bit of vector.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedI think it's fairly typical of Adobe to concentrate on new apps and adding more new features — which are then launched at flashy promotion events — than to do the unglamorous grind of refining the actual things we use in everyday work. I mean, I do like the new apps and features, but I wish they'd skip a year and focus instead on smoothing all these bumps which add friction in daily use.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commented@Jason it's still flagged with Need More Info, despite there being plenty of info here.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedRegarding the suggestion to have some sort of automatic scaling factor, it would have to be transparent to the user. But my work is largely measured in pixels, which is a dimensionless unit anyway, and I still run into the canvas limit. An infinite canvas would be ideal.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedWorking on layouts for 1080p video, I create a document 1920x1080px and duplicate the artboard once, twice, three times, but the fourth crashes the canvas limit. Rearranging the artboards into columns is just a few clicks but the new arrangement pays no attention to the grid, so I have to realign the boards. Of course I have made templates to save me the hassle, but the canvas limit still hits me often enough to be frustrating.

An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedYes, I'd want to retain the prefix field but with the additional option to prefix with the filename.
But really it would be more useful to overhaul it entirely and have a single field which accepted tokens for the various elements to be included in the output filename. This would also allow for underscores, dashes, spaces or some other preferred delimiter.

An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedFullscreen works properly with XD, so someone at Adobe knows how to code it.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commented@Anonymous I know what you mean and I already do it that way, but it's not the same thing.
An error occurred while saving the comment Philip King commentedIt's the same with Photoshop and InDesign, and I find it a real nuisance.

The recently announced change pushed into Beta 28.6.578 refers to this similar request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/35253820
The users can now use save custom presets within the Saved tab in the New Document dialog (modern one, not the legacy one). Please provide the dedicated feedback there.
As for the ability to change the existing predefined sizes for each document profile (Print, Web, etc,), like A1, A5, etc, — this is not yet available. Stay tuned and sorry for the misfire.

Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

The latest Beta 29.2.38 now offers a way to see the distances between a selected object and an object hovered over / edges of an artboard.
- Click on the object you want to measure the distance from
- Press Opt/Alt and hover over the object that you want to measure distance to
- You can also hover over empty area to see the distance from the selected object and the artboard boundaries
Please try it and come back with the feedback.

Hi,
Here what you can do is go to fly-out menu in Asset Export panel and select list view. By doing this you will get bigger size for Asset name. If that also falls short you can increase the size of panel horizontally.
Thanks & Regards

I would have more respect for Adobe in this and other long-awaited features if they came out and said that unfortunately the underlying architecture of illustrator is so old and creaky that some features are impossible to add without completely rewriting the codebase, which would risk breaking many trusted features and third-party plugins and potentially take years to implement.
My suspicion is that Adobe’s intention is to grow the iOS apps to a point where they can be ported to desktop and completely replace the aging desktop apps.
