'Saved' menu in New Document window should show my custom templates
- Right now only templates from Adobe Stock show up here. It's counterintuitive. I would like to have my custom templates saved here. Otherwise they are relatively hidden at the bottom of the 'Web' or 'Print' lists.
- I would also like to be able to quickly save a template right from the new document window (not have to make a document, save as template, get permissions error, fix permissions, save template).
- The new document window is VERY SLOW to open. Legacy is instant and the lag is really frustrating.
- Please for the love of creative gods, fix the High Sierra/CC bugs. My programs crash my entire computer several times a day. Thank you.
Saving custom presets is now available in BETA starting V28.6.578.
With this new change, you can now configure your own document preset and save it for later use. To access this functionality, configure your preset from the File > New dialog (only for the modern one, the legacy dialog don’t provide it) and click the Save Preset button next to the document’s name in the top right corner of the dialog.
Your custom preset is now saved and accessible from the 'Saved' category.
Please try out this feature, so that if there are any feedback from you, we can resolve them and make this feature available to everyone.

This has been bugging me for years! Every now & then I'll try it, and then feel bitterly disappointed.

Adobe QA is going to the dogs. I waste so much time having to run Beta versions for broken tools that have worked for 25 years but get broken on macOS after the latest release. Really elementary stuff.
I agree with template. This is just FU weird Adobe.

It's daft that users have to jump through hoops just to use a custom template. For example banners for blogging sites.

Right now only templates from Adobe Stock show up in the 'Saved' section within the new document window.......this is sooooo counterintuitive. For the love of god can you please allow end users to save their own custom templates saved here. Seems so obvious can't believe this is an oversight from the devs.

I have several layouts I would like to have as templates.
That the top options always are templates from the store that I NEVER use is a nuiscance.
But that I canät seem to get my own templates pinned to top or hardly even visible SUCKS.Amend, please! As soon as possible.

Is there a possibility to make this more user friendly please!

This tab is designed to store downloaded presets from Adobe Stock, as stated here: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/create-documents.html
But sure, nobody gets that! 'Saved' ≠ 'Downloaded'.
I’d say this tab should be renamed or an ability to actually save something into it should be added. -

I agree, I keep thinking about all these things I make over and over again. This seems like such a default feature . Just a quick new document for social media templates, etc. with all the sizes and details set.

there is a way to do this, but it's not simple. For myself, this way of having the preset file doesn't work anymore and I don't know why...

this video shows how to do it.
I used to have it in the open file menu, but it's not working anymore.Perhaps Adobe could simplify the way of doing it so we could use easily presets.

Users should be able to save presets for documents they use regularly so that they don't have to manually set up common artboards they use frequently. I am submitting this under bugs, as opposed to feature requests, because other apps (photoshop, indesign, etc.) allow users to do this and Illustrator has a tab for saved presets in the New Document window, but does not give the user the ability to saved the preset. I DO NOT WANT TO SAVE TEMPLEATE! Templates are different from presets, and all the community answers direct users to saving templates. Again, Templates are vastly different from presets. Pleaase fix New Document window, by adding the "Save Preset" button, so we can all be happy! :)

I don't understand why saving and accessing custom templates isn't as easy in Illustrator as it is in Photoshop.

Even worse, on the Mac, it sends you to the 'inside the app' template folder every time, which you can't change, etc. Makes me nuts.

Hi - I use custom templates more than a 1,000 times a year. Every Illustrator template is easily located in the New Document window. Logically, you should be able to access Custom Templates there ... without drilling through More Settings - a nearly buried link - and then the Templates button - also seemingly an afterthought.
Also, in the Recent Items window, my custom templates don't include the template name; they just say [Custom] and the file dimensions. This isn't helpful if you have multiple custom templates.
I hope these features are addressed in a future update. Thanks.
