AI 2020 slow
I am working on a 2017 iMac pro with an 18 core Intel Xeon W processor, 128 GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 memory and a Radeon Pro Vega 64 GPU (16 GB memory). I just (November 5, 2019) updated to AI 2020 and everything is significantly slower than the last version of AI 2019 (yes, GPU enhancement settings are on). I purchased AI CS because it had the GPU enhancement and it was 64-bit allowing me to work with the rather large vector images produced during my data analysis from spacecraft. However, this slow down is like going back to AI CS 5. What changed/went wrong in the new AI 2020 that caused such a drastic change in performance? AI 2019 was fast and great but something broke in 2020 making everything (saving, dynamic manipulations, etc.) much slower.

Having the same problem!!! It’s taking like 30 minutes to make a change and it’s taking almost 4 hours to save

I think it will run a little faster if a feature that makes some tools passive at startup.
Because each tool or plugin uses RAM.
A tool that I don't use or need, maybe someone else is using it. I understand.
But for me there is a list of tools that I hardly use or need.
If a method is developed that can be disabled in the list below, I'm sure the illustrator will be a little faster.Vehicle list I've never used:
Graph Tool
Symbol Sprayer Tool
Perpective Grid Tool
Width Tool
Curvarute Tool
Slice ToolAsset Export Palette
CSS Properties Palette
Color Themes Palette
Learn Palette
Libraries Palette
Navigator Palette
SVG interactivity Palette
Variables Palette -

Same here - AI 2020 is so slow on so many levels. + every time I try to package files, I get the spinning beach ball and have to restart - absolutely ridiculous.

Similar issues here, a step change (down) since last update. Tried deleting settings, clean install, Adobe cleaner etc. but no improvement. Operates OK, but when /after the curve tool is used everything slows to the point that moving one anchor takes 20-40 seconds.
64gb ram, Xeon E3-1535. Perhaps not the fastest, but I was quite happy with performance until recently.

It takes 5-10 minutes to load the splash screen...sits on initializing plugins for a really long time. Can't zoom in on anything unless willing to wait an hour. I have checked all my settings and I am also running a state of the art ASUS ROG Gaming Laptop with top tier specs ($2000) and it feels like I'm opening a 20 year old machine. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE update making work (this is my income!!) impossible

I am having major trouble with the new version. Slow. Lagging. Can't zoom. Frustrating!

I can confirm this Illustrator 2020 is just unusable because of the performance. Even zooming in and out on a little bit more complex scene takes forever, also it's instable as well, even when running this on a high end PC. The entire CC 2020 collection is complete trash. I am switching back to CS6.

ANY comment from Adobe?! This 2020 update is the worst yet, the lag renders Illustrator almost unusable. Has anyone tried migrating to Affinity Designer?

After couple of months ago, type here and on beta versions program Adobe community. Report this issue to dev team. Nothing has changed...only two things:
1. I have added more ram from 16 to 72 to my iMac 2019 i9 3.6 ghz, 1TBSSD, Pro Vega 48 8GB
2. Bought Mac Book Pro maed out 16 inch with i9 2.4ghz, 1TB SSD, 64gb RAM, 5500 M 8GBÂand... the feeling and laggy illustrator is the same on both those machines. Nothing was improved. Still moving on cavas is laggy, still resizing rectanglem circle, triangle shapes are delayed. Where are more complex document, even the cursor on illustrator is delayed (feels like is drunk and its hard to point on anchor point or on the path).
Photoshop has improved and its really nice to work now but Illustrator is a disaster.

I thought it was just me. Very discouraging that there is no answer here. The program ran better on my 2011 imac with 32M than my 2020imac with 64M. something is wrong...

Goodness!! All these complaints and no response from Adobe???? Really?! I'm having the same issue and glad I'm not alone, but reading all the comments here without any response from Adobe while we keep on paying the subscription every month, geez!

I too am having issues and glad it isn’t just me. I have an imported vector file... and every time I seem to do anything, I get the beach ball. It is ridiculous. I can’t seem to change the issue. Saving sometimes helps it, but then I do a few things and it happens again. But it can get so bad, that just zooming causes this. I noticed, however, that it does not happen in outline view. So I am wondering if something is up with the preview rendering, that might be slowing things down. I was looking for some kind of update, but there is none at the time of this writing. This has nothing to do with my Mac.

Im facing problem with file packaging on illustrator 2020. It takes more than 15mins to package a file or totally freezing. Im running this on a new imac (retina 5k, 27inch 2019), OS catalina.
I put the same file to package on my macbook pro 15-inch, 2017, OS High Sierra, the file package completed in less than 1 minute. I even had set both the ai to matching system handlings settings but still the same. I am unsure how to resolve this. I can't be always switching systems just to package a file..? Or is it a setting that im not aware of that i had to set...

Please give thumbs up on this video below which I've made to show slow performance and optimization on all macs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBO0pH_ee3A&feature=youtu.be Also leave a comment which model of mac you are using and have the same issue.

This what happens when a software company becomes a subscription company. They already have your money, so what do they care about. They either bought all their competition or put them out of business with a better product and now they can just put out **** and ignore us.
