Allow to filter files in Recent menu/section to include only AI documents and exclude chosen formats like PDF, JPEG, TIFF, Save a Copy, etc.
RECENT FILES SHOULD IDEALLY BE ONLY AI DOCUMENTS.
If I have exported say 10 jpgs in my previous session, on start-up my RECENT FILES is over-run with those JPG file names. They all have the same thumbnail too. That's outrageous!

I really don’t know what is the benefit from saving JPEGs file after exporting them

Yes please! When I make a batch of logos or, heavens forbid, icons for a project, I end up with a slew of meaningless thumbnails and it completely destroys all functionality of having the recent files in place!
Even "filtering" by just ".ai" files means nothing if they are getting bumped out of the max-30 recent file thumbnails by a bunch of .pngs that will never see the inside of Illustrator ever again.

Don't forget to include .ait in the filter selection so we can include templates!

Yes, a filter option is desperately needed to remove the unwanted clutter that always forms on the Home Screen. Please add this!

I want only AI/EPS/SVG files to be on the recent screen because technically those kinds of vector files are the only things I ever open using illustrator.
Please add the permanent option to check the boxes on which I can mention what extensions of file I want to be shown on the recent screen. I would never open JPEG from recent screen & it's too much irritating to see on the recent screen.
Or a simple permanent filter option added on current filter which has only "Recent, Name, Size & Kind" on the Sort List. Also on the FIlter tab, I can only search everytime I open illustrator.
Thanks.

I never want to see exported Non-Vector files in my Adobe Illustrator recent vector file list.

I don't understand what the need is to access our recently exported non-.ai files in Illustrator. It fills up all the space that our .ai files should be occupying and creates extra time and frustration when working on multiple projects. A simple 'Filter' option would solve this problem so we could choose to see .ai files only.

Preference to exclude 'exported' items from the Recent Files list.
I use the recent items list constantly and like it long, but when I export all my artboards from a file with many, they replace my entire recent items list rendering it utterly useless. Please add a preference allowing me to exclude exported files from my recent items list.
There is another request asking for fine grained control over the recent list, but that's way more complicated than it need be to be good enough, just a simple filter to exclude exports would solve 99% of the use cases.

Yes this is super annoying

Can we remove or filter out PDF files from the recent files available to open in Illustrator on the home screen. I regularly create PDFs for clients optimised not to open in illustrator and they then appear in the recent files that have been saved. It's very easy to accidentally then open up the PDF file in Illustrator instead of the native AI file.

Same for the File > Open Recent Files, with options, please

Would love to have an option to only have .AI files in the Recent section. I find that other files like .JPG and .PDF showing up there, being a tad confusing at times.

When exporting files with lots of artboards to JPEG, it adds all those exported JPEG files to the "Open Recent Files" list - which isn't very useful since these exported files are usually never opened in Illustrator after exporting.
It would be more logic to only keep the recently opened files in that list instead.

Home screen View of files to improve
The Home Screen view recent files indicates files other than .Ai. Eg export of many jpeg or eps files etc. causes the disappearance of work files from the view. This is not thought out.
The file filter for these files is missing. This filter should be set to the Ai file by default, with the option of switching to all recent files.
Best regards!

YES! — Only show AI / AIT files please!
When I export a bunch of JPG's from artboards, all of those JPG files are in recent items as well — which is madness.

Not just Windows. Same for Mac - really annoying. I commonly create a .ai file then save as .pdf and later can't tell which is which in the Open Recent Files menu. I like the suggestion of, "An alternative solution would be to truncate the name but keep the file extension visible (or use some other icon to indicate the filetype)."

Windows 10. Illustrator 22.
Currently, when using longish file names, the file extension is truncated and missing from the recent file list.
This wasn't a problem until you started including files that had been created by 'save a copy' in the list.
So now I often get 2 identically named files appearing next to each other with no way to work out which is the .pdf and which is the .ai without clicking on it - which also moves the wrong one up the recent list.
I'm just not sure files created by 'save a copy' should be there. An alternative solution would be to truncate the name but keep the file extension visible (or use some other icon to indicate the filetype).
