  1. Hide contents outside of a mask from the selection tool

Contents outside of a mask boundaries are still visible from the selection tool, so i's often tricky to select other objects behind. It would be great to have an option to just see the boundary of the mask with the selection tool.

  3. Allow selecting a clipping mask by its fill.

Currently, I need to select clipping masks by their edge, which is tricky. I prefer selecting objects by their fill.

  4. Quick Command for Trim View

Quick Command for Trim View. I alternate a lot between normal view and trim view but have to stop to select trim view every time.

  5. Don't highlight paths in a clipping mask, outside of the clipped object.

Sometimes I get a file a huge complex path inside of a clipping mask. When I hover my mouse on the outside of the clipping mask this path gets highlighted.

Can we turn this off? I don't have any use for knowing what's hidden in a clipping mask, and this is incredibly frustrating.

Video attached for reference. Does anyone else have this problem?

  6. Transparency Masks should appear in layers panel like Clipping Masks

I like how Clipping Masks show up in the Layers panel as a "<Clip Group>", which you can expand to see the object being used as the mask and the object being masked. However, Transparency Masks do not show up at all in the Layers panel; you have to remember to open up the Transparency panel to see and interact with them. In a document with a mix of Clipping Masks and Transparency Masks, this is really confusing and makes the Transparency Masks easy to forget about. You should make the Transparency Mask show up in the Layers panel like…

  7. Clipping Mask with complex objects

I'm trying to clipping mask an object not that complicated (1000 points) and Illustrator says it's to complex (really?). But if I do a "paste inside" with Indesign, Illustrator allows the Clipping Mask.

It's crazy since Illustrator should be the right software to work with multiple points vector.

  8. Expanding Compound Clip Mask into induvidul paths for production

I want to produce individual paths to a set artboard size fro production after designing a compound clip mask. sample below. There are to many steps involved in individualizing these paths. First you need to group everything with in the clip path then save in place. then release the clip mask path then the compound path. next you need to copy a paste into each individual path. In Corel draw, after designing in the clip mask all you do is release that mask and it is automatically in each individual path after release.. Help me Ai best perform this task,…

  9. Cut, trim or divide open paths (lines)

    1. Option to cut, trim or divide open paths (lines).
For example if "Divide objects below" worked on open paths as well.
Or if the Knife could cut open paths, and cut straight as well.

In attached example, I would have liked to cut my lines with the circle. Instead, I had to cut every single line individually in the intersection, locking the circle and using the Outline View.
    2.
Creating interesting designs, we have just as much need for trimming/cutting lines as filled objects.

  10. Invert clipping mask for edit or delete outside easily

Invert clipping mask to show what's not inside the clipping mask and hide what's inside (and then being able to invert it back so it was like before). Thus being able to delete or edit the outside easily.

  11. Advanced clipping mask (exclude mode)

It would be interesting to be able to use the clipping mask to also exclude a path from a shape. This would avoid using the pathfinder (exclusion) to keep the shapes to take back them.

  12. The new behavior of art being clipped when it goes over the artboard bounding edge an option to turn on or off in preferences

The clipped art over an artboard edge should be an option to turn on and off. Some users do not want this behavior all the time and if it were a preference, the user can control when it should get clipped.

  13. Ability to create Layer masks in Ai that can be used in Ae

I would like to have the ability to create masks in Illustrator that carry over to Ae. It would make the process much faster and more streamlines to build it all in illustrator before I transfer over to Ae for animation.

  14. Don't remove smoke and fill for clipping paths.

Please allow paths to retain formatting when they are made into clipping paths. I see no reason, other than cruelty, to remove the stroke and fill of a path when it is made into a clipping path. If someone can rationalize a benefit for making me have to apply a stroke and fill all over again then at least make a preference for any masochists.

  15. Image Crop Feature

This is a bug with regards to Image crop feature in Illustrator.

While I try to unembed a cropped image (in Illustrator) and link to a PSD source file, the source PSD file gets flattened or layers get merged to a single layer. The source PSD file gets altered and damaging it.

  16. "Release Mask" or "Flatten Clip Path" Right click option for clipping masks.

When one creates a clipping mask using two or more objects, it should be a simple right click option to "apply the mask" and flatten all related objects into a new vector. Currently you can do this by going to layers and selecting the "Clipping Path" layer of choice and then using the "Crop" Pathfinder function to achieve this, however, this method is extremely non-obvious. I don't propose removing the pathfinder function as a way to apply clipping masks, but simply to add a more obvious way to do so.

  18. I'd love for the pathfinder to be able to cut up bitmaps, avoiding having so many extraneous paths in a complex file

It would be nice if I could embed a jpeg or some other graphic format and then be able to use the pathfinder tools to change the shape of the image. Seems doable as the graphic imports as a path that happens to be filled with pixels rather than a color or pattern. The main reason I'd rather use the pathfinder for this over a clipping path is to reduce the number of paths in a complex document. When there are many elements in a file, having a lot of clipping paths makes the structure of the file difficult to…

  20. It would be helpful if you made allowable suggestions, such as, " paint in clipping paths not allowed, convert to paint group now."<

If you're not going to make your paint feature natural or useful, then you could provide allowable suggestions. Suggestions such as, " Paint in clipping paths not allowed, convert to paint group now," then you would click yes or no to convert. Instead, you have created an information loop Where your customers have a problem, you acknowledge the problem, and send your customers on their way to find their own solutions to solve that problem. A problem you have created in the first place. This would be a very helpful feature for you to add.
