Improved 3D effects and Adobe Substance materials
We have introduced new and improved '3D and Materials' effects in 26.0 this year. These effects have been fully rebuilt using modern rendering technology and apart from being much more stable than classic 3D effects, they also allow you to:
* Apply and edit 3D effects conveniently through a non-blocking panel with real time preview.
* Texture artwork using Adobe Substance 3D materials that are highly adjustable. Choose from built-in materials in the panel or upload your own.
* Light up artwork with environment and directional light along with shadows.
* Create smooth and curvy extrusions using the new Inflate option.
* Rotate artwork more easily using the new on-canvas controls.
* Once you've setup your 3D object, render it using Ray tracing with adjustable quality options.
There are more features we're actively working on bringing to these effects. Please share your feedback and suggestions from your experience of using these new effects.
There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:

All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.

I can no longer find the option to turn off shading and display as wireframe, and expanding the 3d shape results in the production of an image, rather than expanding the shape into its component paths. This is quite a loss in terms of features.
I also don't see an option to map artwork to a 3d shape. This was extremely useful. -

The new 3D Ray Tracing render doesn't use the GPU.
I have an RTX 3060TI, a card that is made for Ray Tracing.
Blender can utilize both CPU & GPU and is much faster than just utilizing the CPU, But we are not given a choice in PhotoShop.
Please allow us to use the hardware we have invested in so that we can get our work completed faster.
Thank you! -

Hi! Enjoying the new 3D Extrude tools being more like Dimension! BUT, but, I really miss the perspective feature that was in prior versions. I can no longer demo believable perspective to my class of design students, so we will choose other tools to render our package design comps. WISH LIST: Incorporate perspective into the Extrude Panel soon, or absorb Adobe Dimension into Illustrator so it has all of those capabilities. The new Illustrator panel is a lot like it anyway!
I also agree with the comments from others to allow vector image mapping if Dimension tools aren’t integrated.
Thanks!

Echo need for perspective and vector output.
Likewise, need vector image mapping.
Ideally, the canvas could contain multiple objects inhabiting the same 3D space, like the OLD Adobe Dimensions for Classic Mac OS. You'd be on your way to a CAD tool.
Also, integrate this with the newer Dimension app. Make the objects interchangeable. Round trip cut-and-paste from Ai directly to Dn. And Ae and Ps while you're at it.

Please add back the perspective option on 3D! It is invaluable in creating accurate objects!

The new 3D tools are awesome, I look forward to seeing them develop more fully.
Two things off the top of my head:
1. I'm sure I'm not the only one asking for this, but we need the ability to adjust perspective.
2. OBJ export is a gift from heaven, thank you! Can we please have more control over the the mesh resolution and tessellation?

Render as Vector doesn't work. There needs to be the option do to things the old way. This new interface stops me from being able to use 3D tools for jobs that I used to be able to do in illustrator.

Still missing one of the most basic features to any 3d tool - the ability to adjust perspective. Also "rendering as a vector" does no such thing, when you render as a vector and THAN you expand that shape it creates a bunch of basic outlines filled with a raster image. more stable but less useful than the older 3d

@Jorge Antonio Pajares Ormachea :
1. If you not able to apply 3D on a simple Rectangle also?
2. Does this issue appears every time on your machine? Can you please provide the ai file as well?
3. Please share the Preference folder from below location C:/Users/<user_name>/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator
Can you please share the color settings screenshot so that we can reproduce and look at the issue at our end. Please try this workaround:
1. can you please go to Edit-> Color Settings please provide the screenshot of current color settings
2. Change color settings to any other settings and then apply 3D and see if this works. -

Hi all,
Illustrator 26.2 BETA Release for "3D and Materials" Map Art Feature is now available in the Creative Cloud Desktop BETA Section.
In this update, we have included a few more enhancements in 3D and Materials and a couple of bug fixes are also there.
Major Updates:
1. . Improved Quality and Performance of Decals (mapping 2D art over 3D objects)
2. Added Invisible Geometry for Decals: To show only the artwork map, not the geometry of a 3D object, select Invisible Geometry. This is useful when you want to use the 3D mapping feature as a three-dimensional warping tool. Please check this out and If you encounter any issues please report them. The team would love to hear your feedback on these

Are you kidding me...where's the Map Art tool?!!?? You need to add that back in!!

Big Deal! So you can add canned textures but where do you map your own art to a 3D shape. It does not show where this is. So I prefer the old for a project I am doing because I can map my own custom art. I regret upgrading. What a waste.
