As per the team, they do understand that it’s an issue for folks working across multiple languages.
In Illustrator, however, the font filtering is based on script, not a simple language grouping. Hence it’s not very straight forward to do for Latin. There is no concrete plan or timeline to make it resolved, but it’s now added to the backlog.
Thank you all for raising this up. Feel free to share more thoughts, do report, request, comment, and upvote — this really helps to steer the development.

Re-tested the PDF:
When PDF is all visible [on 29.7.1] I got a 2 seconds of beach ball after clicking to move it
BUT
When I'm zoomed in and a part of PDF is out of view this slows down a lot [5-6 sec] to redraw. Same response in beta 29.9.14.
Cannot send file here it's a CV generated on some on-line service…I'm attaching some screenshots from Acrobat Pro. File is not large, it has just weird long aspect ratio.

I think I got it....
It happens when the app is minimized on the dock and crash opening ANY file.Open Adobe Illustrator 29.6 or latest beta
🟡 Yellow dot = Minimize to Dock
Try to open SVG/AI etc
It crashes
- If app is not minimized works as usual.

I totally agree that opening PDF in Illustrator can be tricky.
BTW opening from Libraries can save A LOT of time (sometimes)...Mark

Sorry I cannot reproduce again.
Apparently closing the file and now after reopening this behaviour is not showing up.
