An error occurred while saving the comment Derek commentedJust wanted to update machine info.
Three new Macs. macOS Monterey 12.5. Illustrator 26.3.1 (have not undated to latest because they brought back that click-drag bug). Never-the-less, it does not matter what version of Illustrator.
InDesign seems to have figured out how to not have this happen. Photoshop does not do it. Acrobat for what little I use it is fine. Even Premiere gets it right.
Illustrator... nope. Every file... every time. Any Mac.
Derek supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Derek commentedHi everybody. Another year passed. Here it is 2021 about to end. I got a shiny new version of Illustrator... 2022... version 26... I couldn't find another number to put with it so we will just have to deal 2021 2022 v26.
I also have it running on the fancy new MacOS 12 Monterey. Awesome cool!
So, eager to see life with the fixed document window opening to its full width and not in that annoying, narrow little strip that has been going on for 2-3 years.
Guess what... it's like living the same **** year over and over again. Bill Murray style.
Every time I open a document the initial open state of that document window (multiple documents in tabs as well) will be this narrow little strip. Maybe 150 pixels or so wide.
Well done Adobe. I am looking so forward to using that new sharing feature to let my colleagues check out the art in their narrow little window too.
FYI... this year I did figure out that it has to do with what the width of the document window is when saved. Anything narrower than around 3200 pixels or so and the document will reopen to that width each time. Once you drag the window width out wider to 3250-something and save... boom... that document will reopen in the narrow little strip document window. I have been able to replicate this on any Mac I try.
Spent 2 weeks trying to explain this to adobe "engineers" and finally got, "we are done with this, move along".
Anyway, I need to go pay this months Adobe bill now.
Until next year. Be cool.
D.
An error occurred while saving the comment Derek commentedWith Application Frame turned off.
When I save a document and its document window is wider than approximately 3200 pixels, the subsequent oping of that document will only expand the document window to about 250 pixels or so.
If I reduce the width of a document window to less than about 3200 pixels and save. When oping the document it will open expanded to its full width as when saved.
Happens regardless display resolution. Although it is obviously more of an issue on 4k displays because you are more likely to get a document window wider than 3200 pixels.
OS and Illustrator version does not matter. Happens old and new. Tried reporting this 2 years ago. Cannot speak to Windows version. I have duplicated this on every Mac I can with Illustrator.
Tech support has been useless helping out. All they want to do is reset preferences and reinstall app.

Here it is late 2020.
Upgraded to latest MacOS (Catalina). Updated to latest Adobe CC apps (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.). Why not... I pay for it monthly.
The Illustrator document window still opens as a narrow strip every time with application frame turned off.

An error occurred while saving the comment Derek commentedGreat to hear about the new goal... maybe now this bug can get some attention. It's only been around for about 3 years or so.

Adobe. Make It an Experience. An error occurred while saving the comment Derek commentedYes, I understand Adobe has never supported network drives. I got that years ago.
The "modified outside Illustrator" error is seen on external drives as well as my machines internal drive. MacBook Pro with Touch Bar 15-inch.
Nothing to do with DropBox or Google Drive. No networking involved here.
Except for Adobe's licensing servers and Typekit.
