82 votesWe finally got the control over the active artboard border color.
In Beta 30.1.0.89, in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display, in the new Artboard Display section, we now can choose the color and the border width in pixels — black, 1 px by default, as usual. We can set it 4 px maximum
The border tries to get aligned by center, but stays pixel-perfect, so choosing 3 is safe. Color choices are the same as we get with layers’ colors, with a custom option as well.
There’s no way to tweak inactive artboards’ borders. Please comment if this solution is working for you and if there’s anything you need to have it perfect.

Can't believe this is still an issue 4 years after it's been reported.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 27.4.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

In an attempt to help Adobe tech solve this issue I am including a file that gives this PDF error. The file came from a client so I don't know exactly what version of illustrator it was created in, but I am positive it wasn't the latest. Interestingly, and quite odd, is the fact that the mask on each element is located off the page and does not interact at all with the element. (Don't ask me why.) If I move the mask towards the artwork so there is actually a masking effect, the file is now able to save as PDF. Also, if any one of the two elements is hidden, the PDF file can save. Show both elements, and the PDF is NOT able to save. Feel free to examine the file as i have simplified and removed any elements of copyright.
