Starting with Beta 29.7.1 the Rearrange dialog got a separate dedicated feature, currently called 'Align Manually'.
With it disabled, artboards get positioned instantly in the center of the canvas, as it behaved previously.
When this is enabled, you will enter the positioning mode after pressing OK — to allow rearranging only some artboards, to address this request.
With more than 1 artboard selected (but not all), the mode gets enabled automatically (and becomes locked).

Artboard 1.png 140 KB
79 votesThe team decided to revert the current look of the active artboard border (2 px black) to the way it used to look previously (1 px black) — many found it to be distracting.
This change will affect General, Beta, and Prerelease builds. No update is required, this flag will be toggled automatically, presumably in few hours.
The change is not final, and the team is considering making it better.
Watch this place for updates on the development.

This certainly is not a normal behaviour of Illustrator.

Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.Niky supported this idea ·
Please allow us to turn off the thick black line that's been added to the active art board it is way too thick not only is it distracting but it gets in the way when designing elements on or near the edge of the artboard.
If this is a change you really want to implement find a way of highlighting the active artboard not actually on the artboard itself since we need that to have clear space to design on a lot of the latest updates have been messing with the look of the area we're trying to work on and it's bad UI.
There is also no need to highlight which artboard you're working on when you're only using one.
