There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:

All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.

Performance suggestion: as a panel, every adjustment causes the object to re-render, so fine-tuning the settings takes a long time. Maybe put a Render button on bottom with an on/off toggle switch labeled something like Delayed Render. Kind of like how Excel does it with Pivot Table updates.

Has trouble with numbers and dimensions. I prompted for a subject of a 40' dragon boat with 20 people paddling, and it produced something cartoonish, with 5 people in a small rowboat. Maybe my description should be more detailed, but I'm not sure how to be more specific. This feature does scenery much better than subjects.

It works fine in the latest versions.
Please check if it does and comment back if it doesn’t.

Running Illustrator 26.0.3 on Monterey, I don't see any change in the behavior. See attached screen shot.

Sorry, I should have been specific. It's the new 3D panel I was referring to. I got to this page by clicking the Suggestions link on that panel.
