You can align to an object you choose to be the key one.. Click the object you want to use as a key the second time and Ai will use a bolder edge to highlight it.

We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.

Please fix the default white so that it cannot be set to overprint.
Since this swatch isn't really a color, but just the background paper, I can't think of any reason why it would be set to overprint.
I work in prepress, and we have a lot of problems when customers have white objects in their files that are set to overprint.
