Remove Local Overrides button for paragraph styles
InDesign has it, Illustrator should too.
Just a single local change, like font colour, and the text looses its paragraph style. The link might still be active since there is a + shown in the paragraph styles window, but changes in the style does not effect the localy changed text anymore. Maybe this is wanted, but I would love a Remove Local Overrides button like the one in InDesign. It resets all local changes and forces the paragraph style back on the text. Even with multiple textboxes with multiple styles selected.5 votes -
Adjusting the curve of the "type on the path" and be able to keep the type from distorting
This was actually a feature that USED to work on previous illustrators, since this month's update (October 2018), it stopped working. Basically, you make a circle shape, then you type on a path. But sometimes you want to be able to adjust/transform the curve (while keeping the Type same size and proportion) to see how it would lay without distorting the type. *Not the same as holding shift because that just keeps the curve the same shape, and it also make the type bigger or smaller. See image for a mock up of what it should look like in action.…

Perspective distortion of bitmaps and text?
In many other software packages you are able to use perspective distortion on text and bitmaps. This should be a very basic feature of illustrator. This way you can still change the font / text while it is in perspective.

Used to be able to resize text back to 100% in a group after stretching it horizontally or vertically.
After stretching a group horizontally or vertically, you used to be able to resize the text back to 100% (aka, revert the weird text stretching while keeping all the objects grouped together). This option seems to be missing after the Ai update! Please give it back!

Typography Swapping Window (just like “Recolor Artwork”
I use Edit>Edit Colors>Recolor Artwork so very often that I have replaced the “Rulers” keyboard shortcut with “Recolor Artwork.”
“Character Styles” and “Paragraph Styles” are invaluable tools, but I REALLY would love to have a dialogue box identical to that of “Recolor Artwork,” except for swapping & changing type, character & paragraph rules/styles. If necessary, I can create a mockup of the UI that I have in my head for this, but I’m not planning to, unless it is necessary.

Support single one line fonts
Hi,
I have tried Illustrator to design name tags to engrave on our engraving machine. Unfortunately single line fonts, which are essential for some engravings, isn't working properly. Bought them from onelinefonts.com and they are working flawless in most other apps, but none of Adobe's so far.

Anyone know the difference between a Paragraph Return ^p vs Forced Line Break ^n
Adobe says they made a purposeful change to Illustrator's Text Selection features. What do you think? Feature change or a unintended bug/change?
I suspect most users never use a forced line break, or know much about it.
So this illogical change in text selection to skip over selection just a line and jumps to a whole paragraph will never be seen. Doubt there was a user Feature request to change this also.Illustrator 2018 changed how text is selected with triple clicks and using UP/Down Arrows.
A simple return/enter is a ^p, paragraph return.
A Shift-Return is a ^n, forced…2 votes -
Free Transform of Text does not operate as expected
Free Transform of Text does not operate as expected; Text should rotate with the text box when using free transform - instead the text does not rotate. Having to stop my workflow to find the rotate command and then guess what angle I need to rotate is a time waster.

"autoflow" feature in Illustrator
To place a docx or a txt file with an "autoflow" feature, like in Indesign. All pages should open all needed artboards.
Thank you.3 votes -

Variable Fonts in Paragraph/Character Styles
This may well be planned already, but I would love to be able to edit variable font axes inside the paragraph style dialogue. This would be very valuable in keeping things consistent.

InCopy Assignments
Just as InDesign lets designers can assign InCopy assignments to text blocks, can the same functionality be done for Illustrator?

Text thread marker (out port) is too small
The size of the red controller [+] which allows you to create a new threaded text is so small that is almost impossible to click. I think it could be bigger in order to improve the usability. In fact, many of those options can be bigger.

Rotate all text in place
Being able to select all Text on an art board and rotate it all in place would be extremely helpful versus having to rotate each text box individually after rotating an art board.
1 voteAn intended way of doing that is to use Object > Transform > Transform Each command. But there is no way to rotate objects right there on canvas with the Rotate tool. If you want the mode for Rotate tool to do that, vote here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/46268581-rotate-objects-separately

Don't force baseline shift settings to be sticky
For me, I only rarely need to adjust baseline shift settings (usually when I want to adjust the verticality of a trademark symbol relative to body copy.
Unfortunately, Illustrator retains the baseline shift value, so subsequent text has it applied by default, forcing me to reset it. I'd absolutely love it if that setting defaulted back to zero, given the infrequency with which I actually need to use it (for me, it's the exception, not the rule). Generally after my occasional need for a baseline-adjusted character, I'm forced to type in new text, manually reset the baseline shift value to…

Absolute Optical Kerning when scaling....
I understand show optical kerning works and that smaller type will have relatively more space between glyphs than larger type. However, this results in a problem for those of us who, due to Illustrator's canvas limit (See 227, #downwith227), must design at scales smaller than 1:1.
For that reason, I would like to request that there be an optional type of optical kerning implemented which does not add extra kerning as font size decreases.

Allow text on linked files to be editable (just as it happens in embed)
When I embed a PSD file into Illustrator, it preserves the layers and also the text boxes, allowing me to edit the text. However, if the file is liked, Illustrator converts all text to pixels, which can cause various problems when printing. It would be great to be able to keep the text as vectors, even if not editable. But rasterizing all text just because the file is liked is a big problem.

Remap ⌥← and ⌥→ to jump back/ahead one word
Make ⌥← and ⌥→ default for jumping one word back and forth or respectively mark text when pressing "shift" as used to in Premiere Pro and by default on Mac. Same issue exists in Photoshop where these shortcuts are annoyingly used to adjust kerning.
