  1. Make Smart guides optionally work with live text

Sometimes it is needed to snap to contour of live text.
Right now it requires to make a copy of text, outline it, snap to desired point/segment, delete copy.

What if user could tick an option that allows to snap to live glyphs? or use 'Ctrl' modifier to toggle this mode on the fly? It would allow us to skip copying-outlining-snapping-deleting and boost the speed.

  2. Can't scroll through fonts and have text change while scrolling anymore...?

I am not sure why this feature changed but I use a lot of different fonts in my industry and its great to be able to scroll through fonts and have text change while scrolling so I can see what they look like without having to click on each font to see how the text looks. This will take forever now. Is this a bug or a feature you will be fixing?

  3. Make the Touch Type Tool work both sides

OK, I'm having this "workflow" issue with the Touch Type Tool.

I like to be able to move 1 character at a time, rotate, move, scale.

But I'm a bit annoyed because SOMETIMES, I'd love it to NOT change the text after. So I usually have to reverse-compensate by making negative kerning on the next character.

    See the image attached :
    1. I justified my type between the 2 green margins.
    -> Nice.
    2. I change the H character (scale/rotation)
-> Getting out of the green margin.
    3. I change the character after (negative kerning)
    -> Back into nice green…

  4. Stop installing foreign fonts I don't need

The font list is getting longer and longer, so it seems. Now we have (rather gimmicky if you ask me) Variable fonts.

I just want to get work done. I live in the Netherlands and I speak Dutch and English.

I don't speak Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew or Thai so I don't need to have these fonts available. These fonts just clutter my already long font list and make browsing and finding the font I actually need more difficult.

Solution: check the system in what language it is in and only install fonts which the user can actually use. Offer whatever…

  5. Stop changing artwork location when changing paragraph justification

When working with type, it is incredibly annoying that all of it shifts it's location when you're changing paragraph justification. I'm not sure for what reason you would want it to move the actual type and not just shift the justification icon box shown at the type baseline.

  7. Overline

It would be nice to have an overline feature along with the underline and strikethrough.

  8. Font auto-activation for fonts stored on local PC

The CC 2019 update Activate Adobe Font function is brilliant, but it would be even better if it did the same for fonts on my own computer too

  9. Illustrator should prioritize editing the currently focused text over other text objects when placing a cursor or making a text selection

If I have a text box selected and switch to the text tool, why does Illustrator assume I want to select a non-selected text box to edit text in? It should prioritize the selected text box over non-selected text boxes.

  10. Add a setting for "Solid" in the leading field of the type panel

Illustrator defaults to "Auto" in regards to leading - about 120% of the point size of the type. When using display faces, I often find I set type a lot tighter - usually around the same leading as the point size. It would be really helpful if there were a setting for that in the type panel, so that as I change the point size of the type (say from 24 pts to 72 pts) the leading would also change automatically from 24 pts to 72 pts - just as it would from one size to another when the leading…

We can change the value Illustrator uses as 'auto' in Justification dialog, which you can access via the Paragraph panel’s menu. Change 'Auto Leading' to 100% to get what you want.

If you want this setting to be applied to all new text objects, you should open Paragraph Styled panel, and edit the [Normal Paragraph Style].

If you want this to be applied to every new document you make, you should learn about editing document profile files Illustrator uses as core templates. Just don’t forget to backup these.

  11. I'd like to see the transform values of text be accurate to the text rather than the text box

I'd like to see the transform values of text be accurate to the text rather than the text box. Also so that when I am center aligning text horizontally it will align the actual text and not the text box.

Latest versions of Illustrator have an exact solution for that.

Open Align panel, and enable Align to Glyph Bounds option in the panel’s menu, for point or area text or both.

The bounding box will remain the same, but the text will now align to and by its actual bounds, just like you want.

Please comment back if it works for you.

  12. Installing new fonts don't automatically list in Illustrator unless I restart the App.

    Hi there,

When I activate a new font in my font management app (in this case FontExplorer), the font doesn't show up in Illustrator. I have to quit Illustrator and reopen it in order to see the new font. In the past I didn't have this issue only in recent updates to Illustrator. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks so much

  13. Auto-adjust text box to text

In the past, with Freehand, we could to do that by clicking on the bottom corner right of the text box.
Recover that would be a good idea.
    Thanks!

  14. Loaded eyedropper just like in InDesign

I wish the eye dropper behaved more like it does in InDesign: If you pick up a type style, you "keep" that style and can apply it to several different text boxes. so if you have a text box with 4 subheads and body copy after each and you want to change all of the subheads to match the first one that you've changed, you could click on the desired style, and then click-drag over each of the subheads carrying the same style to each

  15. Add paragraph return (^p) as a special character in Find and Replace window

Find and Replace text has a shortcut popup for a Forced Line Break, ^n, but not the more common simple Paragraph return, ^p.

A Paragraph return is the normal Return button on all keyboards. A forced line break is Shift/Enter.

Find/Replace understands ^n notation for a forced line break, but does not understand ^p notation for a paragraph return.

  17. Make cursor instantly visible after jumping with arrows keys

While navigating text with arrows (or Ctrl/Cmd + arrows), especially in short word clusters, something like these:
    mon-sun: 10:00–19:00
    break: 13:00–14:00
it's quite hard to understand where cursor has landed after last jump, because cycle of blinking seem to stay the same or even elongate!
There's a second after jump until cursor is finally drawn.
Could you please add or fix it in such a way that cursor is immediately visible after any arrow jump?

  18. Spell Check Ignore Icon Fonts

Spell check should recognize icon fonts and stop recommending corrections to them. In a document with many icons, I don't want to have to add every icon into the dictionary or have to know that if I capitalize that word it would actually break the icon it creates.

  19. Support for ems in leading field of the type panel

When setting the leading, we have the option of "Auto" or setting a specific value in a static unit like px or pt.

It would be great if a dynamic unit like ems (as implemented in CSS) were available to make leading, and I suppose other type attributes, scalable relative to the font size.

For example, if I have a block of text set to 12pt and 1.5em, the leading would be 1.5x the point size, and therefore 18pt. If I were to alter the font size to 20px, the leading would still be 1.5em and therefore would scale automatically…

  20. Fullcap function doesn't work for ydieresis

The fullcaps function doesn't work for the character “ÿ” y-dieresis. All the other letters work correctly, and it works in inDesign too, the problem seems to appear only in AI and PS
