Remove canvas size limit
Can we please have the possibility to set bigger canvas size to incorporate large sized artwork.
(Please note: This item is NOT for more number of artboards per document)
Dear Users,
We have launched this feature in the latest release of Illustrator, 24.2. I request you to try out this feature and give us your feedback.
Thanks,
Sanjit

If you've ever tried to save a full-canvas size PDF it prompts you with "The dimensions of page are out of range" and you have to scale down until it lets you save it. 5 Meters sounds right.
I agree that as long as .AI files can be saved at scale, I'm fine with downscaling PDF's if needed.

Anonymous said "PDF page size is capped at about 5 meters"..
I would agree with you but the illustrator current limit is 227.54 inches which equates to 5.779516 meters..
Thats probably not the answer..
I think this goes back to when Illustrator was written, Adobe never expected sizes to exceed the current limit. They have just never changed it. Its possible there are major rewrites needed to modify it and hopefully thats in the works.
Don't get me wrong.. I want size limits to be gone, I just think there isn't reasoning behind the current cap. -

PDF page size is capped at about 5 meters & since the acrobat PDF standard is what ties the CS together maybe thats the reason why illustrator developers are reluctant to change something that can affect all programs in CS. To address that possible issue, designers are ok with resizing PDFs, we just need to work in scale as we do in Coreldraw & Flexi. So your illustrator fix neednt have to affect Acrobat & its PDF standard.

Is there any update on unlimited canvas size ? it exists in many of your competitors programs, which I find I have to use just for the the infinite art board function as it really really helps workflow and cuts out any mistakes made scaling up and down to complete certain projects. There has been multiple updates and add-ons in other parts of illustrator that are not nearly as relevant as this function, any feedback would be appreciated.

Most modern UI design tools allow for infinite canvases to make use of spatial memory as a way of organizing projects. Please allow larger canvases to organize projects in any way. :)

I often need to put art work in elevations at size, and when I have .ai files I need to scale up I would prefer to be able to do this in illustrator instead of having to save them at half size as a .eps and hope the convert well to be scaled up in other programs like Flexi, Corel, ect. Also I can import files that are much bigger than the canvas size limits but I can work on them because the canvas size limit which means there is actually no reason to have canvas size limits........

Even if you could just increase the canvas size to 10m x 10m my life would be better. This limit is really frustrating as I often build signs that are more than 6m wide. It's 2018, there doesn't need to be a limit to the canvas size at all. Why is this even a question?

As a standard of comparison, the maximum size for CorelDraw is approx. 147 FEET

Why is this still "Need more info" ... it literally couldn't be any simpler to understand, it's far simpler to understand than many of the other feature requests and has been explained multiple times by the many, many, many people that have commented on this thread! Shouldn't it at least be moved to being in review or something, even if it's not being actioned!

I'm surprised no one from Adobe has said anything about this yet...

Our company manufactures sports equipment. Customers often want it customized with names and/or logos. We have one product that is 5 separate panels, each measuring 28" high x 180" long. Because a graphic decal could span all 5 panels, my artwork could be up to 900" wide. Trying to line up multi-panel graphics is very challenging. It would be ideal if I could create 5 artboards, side-by-side, within one canvas area.

I am now trying to scale something from 1/20 to full scale, which is a little over 91 inches, and it would not let me, until I released the clipping mask, which STILL was way under 227".
This is becoming more and more of a pain **********. At least make it big enough to scale a frigging standard Transit to full scale. -

+1 for an infinite canvas. The size limitation is baffling, really. (Especially when you discover it after working with the Powerscript dimension tool, and rescaling would require conversations of the measures already taken...)

Virtual scale:
A dropdown at the top where you select a scale, you add a section in the transform panel to show the scaled measurements and automatically size up to full size when saving or exporting. This would effectively make the artboard much bigger as far as the user is concerned, even if it's still technically the same size as before. It would just take the pain and calculation out of working at scale currently

You know what just give us the virtual scale at this point, we all know we're losing this battle

The most annoying thing in Adobe Illustrator... not being able to use large canvas size. I do outdoor banners, 5-20 meters long, and I have to resize continuously in order to be able to do my job.
This is the reason i canceled my adobe subscription and for a year now, I switched to Affinity Designer. It's not as good as AI, but it does the job, and there is room for improvements. And another pain ********** is the missing function for dimensions. -

This really is a quality of life feature that should be implemented. Nothing worse than having to scale objects down when doing precision artwork.

Architects use AutoCad to design buildings at *full-size*. Surely .ai should be able to have, at least, a much larger canvas. I just designed a banner 223" wide that just barely made it at 100%

Keith, that is understood. nobody is saying you cannot use EPS.. go ahead.. but you have limitations using a 20+ year old format. NOT 1 rip software I know will use ai files.. PDF is what is used today. You can also place PDF inside of word, AI is a proprietary format that is not useable in anything but Illustrator. MOST rips can use pdf. even rips from 15 years ago. Maybe its time for you to do some research on your system, maybe you can go to pdf and it would optimize your workflow.
EPS builds a preview image based on actual size.. This image is ONLY used for preview purposes.. the dimensionally larger your file, the larger your eps. usually.. size times 4. PDF is NOT illustrator.. PDF is a standard on almost every desktop publication and graphics software today. -

The reason eps files are still around is you cannot place .ai flies in word, or print in many machines. Shops like mine use 150,000 printers they bought 10 years ago because they are work horses. The software used to run them won’t rip ai files. Some of our files are 20 years old and eps.
Mostly we keep eps around because it’s use outside of illustrator
