Show HEX value in swatch panel
I often need to copy HEX values from illustrator swatches into other applications. My workflow would be accelerated if there was a text field showing the HEX value like in the color picker window.
Right now I need to apply the swatch to an object and copy the HEX value from the color picker window.
Hi Everyone,
This functionality is available in our latest release build – 27.6.1.
Hex code for the colors is visible in the Color and Swatch Option Panel. It will be visible for Global Colors as well. You can easily copy the Hex value by clicking on '#' icon before the code.

Thank you for all the feedback.

I'm unable to copy or paste HEX value when the swatch is set to Global color! Please implement this feature!

This would be super helpful when editing existing swatches and you want to match another color. Adding an eyedropper to the interface would also be helpful.

I have several more questions I find tough with this.
I understand the reason, but I can't agree with the solution you offer.Imagine the RGB HEX filed does get added into Swatches panel, for you to grab the value of a selected swatch easily. Cool.
Now I am user who designs for print. I don’t care about HEX values most of the time. What Ai should show me instead? CMYK values? All four of them? Don’t display anything? Display hexes only for RGB swatches? :)If you want it to show exactly the same HEX field as Color panel now does — well, why not you use both of these for this task, like the screenshot below shows?
One panel is designed for editing a color, the other one is for storing colors...
Does your desire to have less panels opened worth blurring clear purposes? Why give yet another duplicate of the same thing? I really mean you to answer these, please.Here you have a swatch selected and the code above, ready to be copied... Sure, this applies only to non-global swatches. For globals Ai allows only to edit the tint, and not to grab the HEX value — this is something I am ready to vote for!
And Properties — sure, I can’t see a reason to not display the HEX field right there next to the 'Fill' chip. It is supposed to be a contextual panel and it fails this mission so far.

@Rombout and @Hunter Cressal - I'm on the latest Illustrator version and can't see anything like in your screenshot image, or in the actual Properties Panel.
Showing the HEX value in the SWATCHES panel, not just in the colour picker is the aim of this feature request. It will save an extra step - or more when trying to match colours exactly.

@Rombout I just noticed this! Someone must have listened!

you can enter a HEX code in the properties panel. See the small menu icon top right. Im on a old illusatror because i cant update higher with this system -

@Hunter Cressall
thats true, but this is not about the properties panel. Its about swatches and how they work

This is really a custom workflow. Illustrator saves swatches as RGB, CMYK, GREY or SPOT.
You can easily make a script which return the HEX code for you from a selected swatch -
Hunter Cressall commented
Yes you can place HEX values in the color input but in the swatch palette or the properties panel you have almost no reliable way to enter a color value. Even the palette option itself is uselessly small and inaccurate.

@Morgan Eakins
You can, you can paste a HEX value in the color input. -

Another day, another reason to abandon Adobe products because they have completely lost touch with their users.

this is so tedious, i just want to copy, see, and export hex codes simply

Absolutely! It's so tedious to have to look for the colour code of a swatch. It could just be displayed in the swatch panel, in the user's preferred format

Is there a universal hex library palette we can access thru Open Swatch Libraries?
-
Lisa P commented
I would like to have a color library of hex swatches
-

Awesome! Now hopefully they'll add an option to replace certain swatches with hex values as well. For quick adjustments to a global colour without having to put the RGB value in

@Anonymous
Yes, this is exactly the workaround workflow the OP describes.

after searching for ages I found a way in CC 2021.
See the attached image.
Click on window--> select Swatches --> double click colour box and then the Color piker window pops up and the hex code entry box becomes available!
I had to sort it out for my digital marketing agency work.https://aardvarkworks.com/
