Switching between documents with shortcut CTRL + TAB on Macs
Switching between documents with shortcut CTRL + TAB like it is used in PS. When you, as I do, constantly work in both at the same time, it would be nice to have this functionality in both PS and AI.

Add Release button to Image Trace and Properties panels
Please add a 'Release' button to the Properties Panel along with Image Trace. It would be easier to just 'release' the image trace instead of multiple undo-s.

Custom Rulers for scaling
It would be great to have the option of creating custom scaled rulers.
I'd like to be able to just tell the rulers "From this point to this point on the artboard is x-pixels" and have the ruler scale.
When I design something for a 1080p screen, I like to put 2-up on a letter size page for discussion and markup with clients. So I design in a 2-up environment and end up with a massive amount of math to get things sized right.

Customize Transparency Grid Size and Color...
It would be nice to customize the transparency grid's color and relative size.
11 votesIt is possible to do in Illustrator as well — not in Preferences, but in File > Document Setup dialog (Cmd/Ctrl + Alt +P) — because these settings are local for a document and not global. Same exact controls.

Keyboard shortcut to switch between colour panels (RGB/HSB)
I use both the HSB and the RGB colour panels all the time. To switch between them, the user currently has to select from the options menu or shift-click multiple times to cycle through.
What would be really great is to be able to assign shortcuts to specific colour panels.

Keyboard shortcut for Properties panel
There is a keyboard shortcut to go to any other windows option except this.. I don't know if it is because it is a new feature, but this should really be implemented... Can there be a mappable keyboard shortcut for the new properties panel on illustrator
11 votesYou can assign a custom hotkey for Properties panel in the Menu Commands section of the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog in the latest Ai versions

Make clickable areas for eye buttons in Layers and Appearance as large as their sections
As demonstrated in https://www.instagram.com/p/CmhJOBNo-U3/
Clicking an 'eye' requires aiming, despite the area it is located in is pretty large. What’s a point of limiting the clickable area?10 votes -
Remake the Tools / Menu Commands dropdown in Keyboard Shortcuts into two toggle buttons
Dropdown lists just from two elements are pure evil.
Illustrator has one in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog. What’s a point of having it? Don’t you have enough space on the x-axis to display both items at once and improve the discoverability of both options?
As if you were hoping to get another item in that list and never added... in30 years.Remake it into two conjoined toggle buttons, or at list in a radio-group (ugh), but just allow users to see both available options at once.

Make Properties panel to have the same width as other panels
Properties is the widest panel among other panels in Illustrator.
While other panels by default have the same width (and some are resizable), Properties is too wide.It gets specifically disgusting whet it get stacked with other panels — they have to conform the minimal width of Properties and start looking ugly.
At the same time, the main content of Properties does not look like it needs all that minimal width — there is a huge gap on the right visible in 'properties_1.png' attached.
Sure, when you have some art selected, it look differently, like in 'properties2.png'... but look…

Allow assignable shortcut key for "Convert selected anchor points to smooth (and corner)" action
Would like to assign a shortcut key for both "Convert selected anchor points to smooth" and "Convert selected anchor points to corner" actions, similar to pressing available button when an anchor is selected.

graph type preview checkbox
It would be nice to add a Preview checkbox to the Panel that you get when using Object > Graph > Type… , Object > Graph > Design… , Object > Graph > Colum… and Object > Graph > Marker…
After 35years this should be possible.
Thank you!10 votes -
Bring back the previous Illustrator CC toolbar
Bring back the previous Illustrator CC toolbar. After years of having the AI tools in a particular spots, now they're all over the place and hard to find and the Edit Toolbar is a cluster#$%& of madness. Bring it back!
10 votesWe have not removed the previous toolbar, it is just that it is not the default. Please use the Window menu > toolbar to get back to the advanced toolbar

Export for Screens - bigger window size for "prefix"
On export for screens, the "prefix" section: In addition to adding a checkbox for AI filename, make the prefix window longer. I frequently have longer prefixes and it is a minor pain to scroll over to change a prefix name. There's plenty of room in that box to make it the width of the rest of the export screen.

Add Nudge buttons to Properties/Transform
The new tools panel does not display nudge buttons on the transform tool X,Y, and W,H buttons. We use them frequently now have to display the application bar - which is a shame. There's room for them as the 'rounded corner' section has them!

Proportional Grid like After Effects
Make the standard grid setting in preference allow specification of height AND width. After Effects has a similar feature. Just tried to set up a proportional grid using Make Guides and illustrator almost crashed. Sometimes I don't want the Grid to be square.

Focus the Search field in Preferences (introduced in Beta 29.7.0.60) when the dialog gets opened, and focus the found and highlighted option
Search in Preferences, originally requested here (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/42476344) is a welcome feature! However, it works not as it should be, as shown in the GIF attached.
- The field should get immediately focused instead of Keyboard Increment field, so we can start searching right away after calling the dialog with Cmd/Ctrk+K
- When it finds an option that can be toggled (a checkmark) or focused (a field) — it should focus it, so we can toggle it with s Space or type a new value This makes the whole experience mouse-free for those who are in a hurry (and we are).…
9 votesThis change broke the existing method to quickly access the Keyboard Increment value, reported here. The team decided to revert this change until a better solution is found. Please watch this space for further news.

Increase number of recent files
Please increase the maximum number of recent files from 30 to 50 or 100 like Photoshop (both in Home Screen and File > Recent).

Highlight objects to unlock when choosing one from Unlock in context menu
Previously Illustrator introduced a way to unlock specific objects under cursor: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34950421
See the screenshot for example.
However, when you have objects unnamed, this list doesn’t really help, and Ai does nothing to highlight the object in focus and help to distinguish from other locked ones.Ai should make the edge of the object to be unlocked with a thick line, similar to one we see on key objects, or a somewhat similar look it is used for Objects on Path picking mode (now in Beta).
Look how Figma highlights objects (see the attached video).

Add Focus Fill and Focus Stroke commands we can assign hotkeys to
Illustrator focuses either a fill or a stroke to be set.
We can control the focus with the hardcoded X key, that toggles fill and stroke, but it also requires to know which is active at the moment to know if we should press it.It’d be faster for professional user to actually force the stroke or the fill to be active, with dedicated absolute keys instead of relative ones.
I’d use something Alt+X and Alt+Shift+X (these are free), or remapped them to something even more simpler.
There is a related request:

Move 'Show The Home Screen...' and 'Use Legacy File New...' options to Preferences > User Interface section
These two options are not 'general', they relate to specific UI choices.
