Option to show rulers by default
I would like an option to set the rulers to show by default. I know it's only one shortcut away, but I have to do it about a million times a day. (OK, maybe only 500K)
Hi Everyone,
This has been completed, and has available since June 2020 release (version 24.2)
Please go to Illustrator preferences > General > and select “Show/Hide Rulers” (refer attached screenshot). After checking this, if you hit ‘Show Rulers (Ctrl/Cmd + R)’, then the rulers will appear in every document (new and old), even after relaunching Illustrator.
Please update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback.

I think it is a big deal. I create between 10-30 files a day where I have to show rulers, and I'm pretty sure that's the default on a daily basis for every other designer or artworker. Why it hasn't been implemented already I have no idea. Clearly, those that build the software don't use it regularly, or don't understand the processes we customers go through on a daily basis. Either or, it shows a lack of connection to your consumer audience.

I know it's no big deal to Ctrl + R to show rulers, but I have to do it every single time I open a new document and try repeatedly to get to the place where Show Rulers would be a default. I see someone else remembers being able to set Show Rulers as a preference. It would see that most anything you want to do in a drawing format is going to be reliant on measurements, aka RULERS. SHOW RULERS should be at least a preference setting each user could choose, like "Smart Quotes," though don't get me started on Smart Quotes.

I had the Illustrator 10 coming out of college nearly 20 years ago. I remember setting up the preferences to always show rulers, defaults on all other standard options... and which tools on the side I wanted at start-up. I "upgraded" to CS5 a few years ago, and I am frustrated that I have to either learn computer programing to have it upload my palettes, show rulers, etc., or I have to manually do it every time. I use illustrator mainly for personal use, and a little graphic design for my businesses, so it doesn't make sense to subscribe. I don't know what happened between Illustrator 10 and CS5, but someone forgot that there are a few simple options that should be available for the non-computer programmer types out there to just set your general workspace once...and never need to do it again. You can continue with all the great other features, but please help out the casual users like me. Thanks!

Please get this taken care of before we all switch over to Affinity. Simple things like this shouldn't have to be raised as issues in forums.

Please, please, please, make this a default option. I need to select "show rulers" every single time I open a document.

High School Teacher here... I have my kids measure everything and turning rulers on and off for every user in 6 classes a day is a nuisance. Why can't this be a preference setting like filling text boxes with placeholder text.

I would also love to have the option to set the rulers to show by default. I use them in every file I create.

Edit / Preferences / ... somewhere here, like in Acrobat. Please add this option

Please could you add this feature as soon as possible, for users that create 100s of images a week, it's a real pain not having this as a default.

Fix simple things like this before adding fancy features, please !!

Quite happy to offer 4 colour options, interface scalability and tool panel customisation in Cc 2019 but still can't offer simplest of features that we've been waiting for for over two decades!

Does Adobe even read the user requests or just only care about our subscription?

Agreed. This should have been a feature back in version 4 or 5 at the latest. It could be a preference you check in the general preferences tab along with "scale lines" and everyday things like that!

To set rulers to be always present, in each new document.

100% agree with this. Why on earth is this not the default view? What is the logic behind NOT showing the rulers? Please allow this option in the general options menu
