Automatic dimension/measuring tool please
A tool to automatically dimension signs would be an advantage to those of us working in the sign industry who create visuals for clients. It would also assist in maintaining accuracy of the artwork created and automatic checking device. This with the removal of the artboard size limitation would create a full working drawing platform for the manufacture of large signs for the retail industry.

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3
You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

If you want a simplier, lighter and cheaper plug-in than CADtools, you can try BPT-Pro plug-in by Baby-universe. It is a little Japanese firm.
CADtool is a good produce, but I find it is too expensive and I need only a few tools. -

Have a pen tool option which automatically adds the length of the line you draw with arrows/dimension lines. This would allow fast labelling of mockups or product drawings. I work with architectural drawings and need to quickly add dimensions to rooms or objects. Similar to measure tool in Acrobat, but more accurate.
I've tried the Specify plugin, but it doesn't dynamically adjust dimensions. So if you change the object you need to re-do the dimension.

May you integrate fonctionnalties provided by CADtools plugin inside Illustartor ?

YOU DON'T NEED MORE INFO...............For goodness sake put in a multi-function dimension tool!!!!! Corel can do it, is your abiliy so far behind them that you struggle to understand your customers needs? Get rid of your snobby "illustrator" ideals and give us something to help us design with

They don't want to appear to be a CAD package.......they still cling to the snobby "Illustrator" title as opposed to producing design orientated software

BPT-Pro4 is what we currently use. But it would be SO nice not to have to rely on a third party plug-in.

One never knows what features they plan to add. Hope springs eternal...

David your more than likely correct in your assumption. "Artists" who depend on those type of features in a program should start looking elsewhere. Its clear Adobe is not interested in making these type of mods to help them out. Thanks for pointing that out. It might just help some people move on.

Because this feature has been requested for years now (decades!), it has to be a deliberate omission by Adobe. I feel there are two possible reasons: 1] it's too complicated for the programmers, or 2] it's not part of the Adobe road map. I doubt it's the former reason. I think that Adobe sees Illustrator as mainly an "art" program. Why else would it not have auto-dimensioning (like CorelDRAW), flow chart features (like Office apps or CorelDRAW), and modern charting functions (like Excel) after all this time?

My office uses a combination of corel draw and adobe products. We currently have (3) seats with Adobe and use the HotDoor plug in. It is ridiculously expensive. We have recently been seriously tossing around the idea of dropping Adobe for Corel because of this issue. This thread has been going for a long time now with no success or explanation from Adobe that I am aware of. Might just be time to move on.

We need a tool that measures horizontal and vertical lengths as well as angles, angular lengths, radii and diameters. This tool should be compatible with ANSI and ISO standards.
It’s really ridiculous to have to pay $350 for a tool that has been around for decades on Corel. Wondering why I don’t go to Corel? This is what I have been asking my employer without success for years. Which one, between you or my employer, will move first? -

It would be really helpful to have a complementary scaling system with the most common scales used in architecture and industrial design and the change of adding your own scales. allowing in that way to scale your artwork while keeling the dimensions showed in the measuring notes.

It would be really helpful to have a complementary scale system that allows you to adapt your design to the different scales at the same time that keeps the dimension notes.

Being in the sign industry an automatic measure tool is essential, it takes me twice as long to produce detailed layouts for clients and installers... I cant see how hard it would be to add!!......... Corel has had it for years!!

You'd think after 3 years they'd have the info they need....

even Inkscape has it built in...

So remodeling the design studio today and the boss asked to see dimensions of everything on this drawing. Sure would be nice to have those dimensioning tools. I should have used Corel.

Yea, just add it in already, why need to use a third party or another app along with this. Efficiency Adobe, add it in. Don't overcomplicate simple things.
This feature is important even for graphic designers that does signage work sometimes. Thank you.

The extension Dimensions Powerscript mentioned by Oliver works very fine. And at a very, very reasonable price..

until Adobe comes up with something, I use this one:
