Option for Artboards to be non-printing and non-exportable (inactive)
Would be very useful if there could be a setting in the Artboards panel that could make them 'non-printing' (like in Layers).
I use a lot of pre-prepared template files and sometimes don't use all Artboards, so to 'turn them off' rather than having to delete (as I may need them later in a job) or keep changing print options would be great.

An option to hide or deactivate one or several artboards would improve working with multiple versions of graphics — especially when you you need to return to an earlier iteration.
When saving to an AI-file you have to erase the artboard (with the graphics floating in space) to get rid of the page.

I miss a way to de-activate artboards greatly.
I need all artwork shown and unlocked, but I need some of artboards to be exported as images to preview and discuss, but some others to export for printing. These groups don’t match, so I have to remember the ranges for each case. A hundred of those is tough to manage. -

Great!

I’m still missing an ability to deactivate artboards. Not hide with their contents, but turn off the frame (unless I hover in the panel, perhaps), exclude from defining the paste coordinates, from Zoom into Artboard, from Next Artboard... I want to activate these artboards later, for export purposes, but don’t interfere with me navigating the canvas.

Prefer to be able to hide one or several artboards.

I would find this useful when sharing files for client review or by PDF, hiding any 'development' artboards.
By locking artboards, select all then doesn't become an issue.

Here's how I'm picturing it. Similar to the layers window, it has a visibility (eye) icon and a lock (padlock) icon that can be toggled on and off. In the attached example:
- Artboard 1 is visible and unlocked, artwork can be edited
- Artboard 2 is hidden (invisible) and is also locked. The locked state has no bearing in this case as invisible means both the artboard and associated artwork is hidden. However, if the artboard were made visible by clicking the eye icon column, the artboard and artwork would become visible again, but would be locked so that the artwork could not be edited.
- Artboard 3 is visible and locked. The artwork can be seen, but cannot be edited.
- Artboard 4, like artboard 1, is visible and editable. In this case it is the currently selected artboard which is being actively worked on by the user. -
There are several similar requests:
1. Layer Comps, similar to what Photoshop does, requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32923834 (and the comments there offer several plugin solutions)
2. Artboard-specific Layers ('Layers per Artboard'), requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31133392
Which one do you mean? Or do you mean something else entirely, perhaps filtering like InDesign does?
And welcome to UserVoice! -

The option to define visibility of layers and objects by artboard.
This way, one could set multiple artboards of the same content with different sets of layers or objects visible in each.
I often have to hide/show some layers before export (for instance when I do the same complex artwork in multiple languages). Of course the default would be the current behavior. -

I would like to lock artboards so I could use the magic wand tool or commands like select all.. fill color, etc., and only select from the content on one artboard, leaving the others undisturbed.

Egor: An object spanning artboards would print/export when each specific artboard is configured to print/export.
Consider:
Do we output an object when the artboard is output-suppressed? No.
Do we output an object when the artboard is output-enabled? Yes.
Does it matter if the object overlaps several overlapping dartboards with different output settings? No. Outputting an artboard = outputting an artboard. If an artboard is suppressed, it's irrelevant what objects it overlaps. -

It is tedious to have separate layers that don't overlap for each artboard. That's the only way to work on one artboard at a time when doing things like select same fill color objects or select all text.

I want the ability to toggle on/off visibility. Wouldn't change layer association just not show the content related to that dartboard.

Really could use this feature.

Egor - I think in this case, it's why it would be an option, as not all would need it. I'm not sure in my use of Artboards why you would have objects spanning multiple boards (except for large format printing?!) but in which which case you wouldn't need to make them 'non-print'.
The default would be to print, with the option to disable any print in the Artboard prefs, or a check button on the Artboard list? Would be a simple application if it can be done already with Layers?
It's just easier than remembering numbers before you export or print.

The problem with this can be caused by the fact artboard can overlap each other, and one object can be placed inside of several artboards, or overlap some, or be a small part of another artboard while almost fully placed into another one.
How do you intend to work around these problems?
Let’'s discuss it. -

Hi - it would be super-handy to have a preference in the Artboard settings for 'non-printing/exporting' – I often have multiple boards, and some are for sketches for a design, and don't want those to print or save to an export file. It would save the hassle of having to manually see which number artboard I want to omit, or having to save a new file and delete them. Thanks!

Artboards may contain different objects from different layers... There is no easy way to lock/hide/select all the layers on specific artboard.
It will be a nice Idea to lock/hide/select all layers/objects based on the artboard.
I wish I can do these operation in artboard panel and this feature may lead me to ask why not to Filter Layers by artboard in the Layers panel?!! -

To hide artboards should for sure be possible, I very often miss that option? is there any news on this?

I could also have use of a feature that groups artboards, so that it is easy to hide/unhide many with one click.
