1. Two selection borders around text

   There's a second border around a text in my file when I select it. I cannot find why, what it does and how to remove it. When I create new text, it doesn't appear.

   The object has Text Wrap applied to it. It can be removed with Object > Text Wrap > Release.

2. Can't adjust leading with Alt+arrow keys.

   When trying to adjust text leading with ALT + Up/Down arrow keys as usual, it doesn't seem to work. It's inconvenient to adjust leading from the character menu.
   Illustrator 2023.

3. Glitch signs introduced by illustrator when opening a plot created by R

   Hi everyone,

   I mainly use Illustrators to manually edit plots/figures created by R (a statistical programming tool). R creates PDFs which can (normally) be opened and edited using Illustrator.

   However, I recently encountered a strange bug. My plots look just fine when I open the PDFs using Acrobat Reader, but they contain glitch signs instead of points when I open them using Illustrator 2023.

   I am attaching a (zoomed in) picture showing these symbols. If anyone can help, that would be very appreciated :).

   The problem got resolved with changing the font manually in the imported PDF. However, it does not explain the problem completely. Please comment if you have new information on this.

4. Can’t select a hyphen at the start of the line

   テキストツールで半角英数字で入力したものが、後になって選択できなくなる場合があるようです。
   「- 2022 -」と入力したあと、修正しようとしたら、最初の「- 」が選択出来ません。

   Illustrator converts a hyphen at the start of the line to a bulleted list, unless the 'Automatic Bulleted and Numbered lists while typing' option (enabled by default) is not turned off.

   These converted markers can’t be selected, unless you convert the text back with the dedicated button in the Paragraph menu.

   But be warned though, that sometimes disabling the auto-conversion does not work, and hyphen and other characters still force Illustrator to create a list.

5. Linked Text Boxes DEFORM

   When spreading text over more than one text box, the first one is fine, but any consecutive one deforms so the copy is stretched.

   The problem was probably caused by scaling area type objects with another art selected. Illustrator treats these selections differently. Take a look in the comments for a more detailed explanation and demonstration.

6. Change case feature not working.

   I am trying to change from uppercase to lowercase. Using 26.5.1 (64-bit) version. I wish I had not upgraded as it crashes every few minutes. Steps: highlight text; Type-->Change case-->lowercase. (In the attached video the Type drop down does not appear in the recording; follow the mouse.

   Toni, for some reason you have All Caps option enabled in the Character panel for this particular text selection (or rather the whole type on path object).

   Once disabled, Ai stops to force the capitalization for it, and the result of Change Case commands start to be visible.

   I agree though it can be tough to discover.

   If anyone else happen to have this exact problem — please add your votes, so the team can get data on reviewing this in the future.

7. Font compatibility issues between different iOS and Illustrator versions

   My one system is on Mojave (10.14.6) running 25.4.8 illustrator. The other system is on Monterey (12.3.1) running 26.5 illustrator. And I have downloaded and installed Petrona font from Google fonts on both the systems.

   Now when I try to open the file (that was created on Mojave) on Monterey I'm prompted for missing fonts! This compatibility issue is making it very difficult for me to work across my devices.

   As it turned out, the font was installed as a static weights collection on one system, and as a variable one on the other. Illustrator didn’t provide enough clarification on this.

   However, please vote and comment if you have the same problem.

8. New text set to wrong language

   Everytime I create a new text using the text tool, the language for the text is set to "English: EUA", but both my Illustrator settings and my document settings are set to "Portuguese: Brazil".

   I don't believe that there is a THIRD place where I need to configure this, so I imagine that it's a bug. Also, my Illustrator it's updated, but I've been experiencing this for a while.

   The problem was in a modified default Character / Paragraph Style. Please refer to comments for the details.

9. can't use the hand tool while using type tool anymore

   If you're using the type tool, you used to be able to hit the command key, then press the space bar to bring up the hand tool to move the canvas around without affecting the type. It's worked this way for years and years. Now, however, when you bring up the hand tool while type is selected, the space bar adds spaces while the hand tool is also operating. Please fix this!

   This is another one of dozens of examples of things that worked flawlessly in Illustrator for years, but is now fundamentally broken. These types of problems are plaguing Illustrator and are being overlooked for months and years despite the repeated requests in User Voice.

   I hate this program now. I used to love it, but what was once a phenomenal creative tool has become a hindrance to productivity. It's a massive frustration that I'm forced to use. It's almost as big of a pain ********** is it is using Microsoft Office products.

   I've already started moving away from Adobe products when it comes to creative tools on my iPad. I now actively encourage others to find Adobe alternatives when I'm asked about programs/creative tools...and I know I am not the only one. That's not good, Adobe.

   Please, give a sh*t about your customers and fix this deteriorating program. I honestly would go back to a CS version if I could. Just atrocious....

   I also can't post the screen capture example I was attempting to attach. Again, great UX, Adobe.

   Cmd/Ctrl + Space does not enable the Pan tool, it enables the Zoom tool. But Alt/Opt now does enable the Pan while editing a text — use this instead.

10. Cannot move type!!!!!!

    I cannot move any of the type that i type and i also cannot select the type that i just typed..... I am extremely annoyed with these updates...... Why can i not moved type? Why as soon as i have typed a word, can i not then select that same type???

    Uncheck Preferences > Type > Type Object Selection by Path Only option.

11. Josef Pro font disappears as you type

    I am trying to type the word "Communications" in Adobe Illustrator. If I use any other font, it types fine and looks fine. When I use Josef Pro, the "ti" goes missing and only shows "Coomuncaons". When I change from Josef Pro to any other font, I can see the "TI". I tried this is other applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel and this problem does not happen. It's definitely an issue with Illustrator.
    Unfortunately, I cannot use another font because our company logo uses this Josef font.
    Please help.

    Illustrator tries to load a ligature from the font and can’t get one. Got resolved with unchecking the 'Standard Ligatures' button in the Window > Type > OpenType panel.

    If you have a similar problem with a different font, please try the same thing and comment.

12. Big problem with 'Horizontal Align Center' bug fix

    Windows 7 64bit professional service pack 1,
    Illustrator CC 23.0.6.

    The recent fix for "The 'Horizontal Align Center' option does not align text with the center of object if text has tracking applied on it" in version 23.1 is causing all of our files, tens of thousands of documents, to display incorrectly when you open them, shifting text automatically. We need to be able to turn off this "fix" in settings or something please. We produce scale rules and navigational equipment etc. and almost every one of our files is incorrect if we upgrade to 23.1! We are stuck on version 23.0.6 until we can find a way around this. Please help.

13. Millimeter setting for font size not correct! cost me $1000s in reprinting

    I'm a freelance designer working for a top hair care brand which markets their products world wide. We had our entire front label product run rejected because it did not meet EU regulatory standards for ml and net weight type size. When creating the labels the first time I set my font size from points to mm to ensure I met the minimum size requirements of 3mm. Imagine my surprise when we heard from our EU distributor our product was rejected! This is where I made my mistake I trusted Adobe Illustrator program to ensure when I set a font size at 3mm it was going to be 3mm. It WAS NOT it was around 2.5mm in size. How I confirm this after the news is I checked the ALL CAPS font against a 3mm square box. see attached screen shot from illustrator of the issue. This issue has cost my client and thousands in reprinting costs to correct the issue.

    Adobe please fix this so we can trust point sizes are true. When I called in the customer service tech experienced the same issue here is my case #ADB-6064776-M9S5

    Illustrator today offers Font Height Options, to set the font size using x-height and cap height. This should help following standards and controlling the exact dimensions of type.

14. Wrong font preview for RTL languages

    There are a few problems with the new fonts preview in the last version of Illustrator.
    1. Even though 'Selected Text' preview option is selected the preview shows first five Hebrew alphabet letters instead.
    2. This happens weather the text box is selected or the text itself.
    3. Sometimes the 'Selected Text' preview is shown. In those cases it's shown backwards (LTR instead of RTL).

    This happens in spite of the fact that the text box is marked as a 'Hebrew' one and 'RTL Arabic' digits is selected.
    I'm using a Mac running OS X 10.13.6 High Sierra.

    Hi Eli,

    Not all the fonts have all the glyphs available with them to show the preview. For the fonts where glyphs are not available, we show the default sample preview (that’s why you get first five glyphs for those fonts)

15. CC font preview not working any more

    When I start typing a font name in the character box I used to get the related font preview pop up , this no longer works at all and is very irritating

16. Font problem

    every time I try to type something on a clean sheet my letters ( no matter what font I use) look like someone cut through them. Can you help and tell me why is this happening?

    This was fixed in 10.13.4

17. Fonts do not drop down

    Font drop down no longer works. They did yesterday, but not today. Reinstalled to no avail. Drop down works in all other apps.

18. Keyboard shortcut for Change Case > UPPERCASE is missing

    1. In version 22.1 there is no anymore option for Type > Change Case > UPPERCASE in Keyboard Shortcuts.
    2. I miss that Shortcut, that's all.

19. Font Suggestion and Cursor misbehaving

    I'm already feeling a lot of regret for updating to CC 2018!
    Now anytime I want to change a font, and I start typing in the name, no suggestions come up. Sometimes, the cursor jumps backwards and start inserting characters midway. I feel frustrated and fed up.

    Looks like your setting is set to “Search First work only”. Click on the search icon and from the drop down select “Search Entire Font Name”

20. Small Caps no longer working as it should

    Illustrator 2017.1.0. Setting the Small Cap percentage no longer works for some fonts. They seem to have their own default setting that is unaffected by changing the percentage in the Document Setup window. In the attached example, Small Caps is set to 90%. In the first two font examples, you can see it's nowhere near that. If I change the setting, the bottom word will change but the top two remain the same. This is terrible!!

    Illustrator uses real Small Capitals when a font has specialized glyphs for that, just like these two top fonts used in the test file.

    When a font does not have true small caps, they get faked using the value from Document Setup.
