Improved 3D effects and Adobe Substance materials
We have introduced new and improved '3D and Materials' effects in 26.0 this year. These effects have been fully rebuilt using modern rendering technology and apart from being much more stable than classic 3D effects, they also allow you to:
* Apply and edit 3D effects conveniently through a non-blocking panel with real time preview.
* Texture artwork using Adobe Substance 3D materials that are highly adjustable. Choose from built-in materials in the panel or upload your own.
* Light up artwork with environment and directional light along with shadows.
* Create smooth and curvy extrusions using the new Inflate option.
* Rotate artwork more easily using the new on-canvas controls.
* Once you've setup your 3D object, render it using Ray tracing with adjustable quality options.
There are more features we're actively working on bringing to these effects. Please share your feedback and suggestions from your experience of using these new effects.
There are now several separate requests made, based on the feedback in this thread:
1. Regarding adjustable color and opacity for 3D shadows:
https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47054086
2. Regarding presets for each tab in 3D and Materials panels: Object, Materials, Lighting:
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47350001
All those who commented on the topic until October 16, 2023, are already added as voters there. If this is something you want to have for 3D and Materials in Illustrator — please upvote it. If possible — create new requests and bug reports about 3D, rather than commenting here inside. This will help the team to better prioritize efforts on making the feature better. As always — thanks for the feedback! It helps.

Can someone please explain why Illustrator is doing this when working with 3D?

Hello pre-release team! I was exploring new 3d function an come to this. When I expand the wireframe I have it double. Also since we are talking wireframes. Is there a way to set a live wireframe on the 3d objects? I would like if there will be just a bit more control of a 3d space. Right now I can manipulate just the 2d wireframe.
Thank you in advance

What is this and how can it be fixed?

Why isn't there an option to change the color of the graphics in the 3D rendered models?

Looking really good. I'd really like to be able to export an Illustrator-edited 3D object to USDZ, via Reality Converter. Right now, I don't see an easy way to get the texture out of Illustrator. Apple's Reality Converter is reading the OBJ correctly, but without a texture as a PNG, it's tricky.
Can this please be added in a future release?

Is there a copy and paste attributes?

Hi,
I sent this comment and I was told to share the file, I attach it here...
"Hi, I just upgraded my Illustrator version - 26.4.1 64bit - yesterday (I have a PC, Windows 11 Pro, version 21H2 build 22000.795 - Invidia GTX 1660) and the ray tracing now is corrupted everytime, with a sort of white sparkles... see the screenshot attached. Please, solve the problem, the previous version did not do it..."
I hope you can fix this render problem I had with the most recent upgrade...
Thanks a lot -

It takes forever to edit a design after applying the lighting effect. Please fix it asap. The design should not have to render after every single movement you make. It makes you not want to use the lighting effect.

Shadow bounds are not enough at 400%. Shadow stays within the bounds but shows a hard edge. As seen on the left.

Please make it so that graphic maps can be scaled non-uniformly like in the Classic 3D module. Also, the classic 3D module allowed for the simultaneous use of multiple lights (front and back lighting)–please bring this to the new 3D module. Thanks!

Amazing feature, really useful in design,
Would be good if you could rename materials. as some materials downloaded from the web have strange symbols as the name
Would be good if you could save edited materials, for exmple if you customise the colour of one material and want to apply it to a different object you have to customise it all again
Also would be good if you could organise different materials into sub-folders, so you can easily access your favourites.

@Egor Chistyakov: I have attached the file that is giving me problems, but it isn't just this file--it is ANY 3D file that I want to change the material color. The option just isn't there. I'm not the only one with this problem. Lower in this thread (July 13) @Marketa Andersova also has this problem, and I've seen it brought up on other threads as well, so far with no solution. Maybe it is unique to MAC?

hi all,
I try to draw a logo with the 3D tools in illustrator 2022.
before i can transform 3D in vector and continue to create in vector.
but transforme aspetc seems know impossible.
i hope this new 3D options with sophisticated render answer to other people needs.
Me... i don't need illustrator to make realistic 3D with render. there is other best tools to do that.
I just want to manipulate simple vectors in 3D ans stay in vector.thanks !

I no longer have the option to change the material color in Illustrator 3D. The option just no longer exists! This makes the entire effect no longer usable for me.

There is a change in behavior in revolve from "classic" that makes it impossible to do somethnig. Let's say I wanted to make something that looked like an apple with a section cut out (to keep it simple I wish to revolve a half circle with the the edge red and the fill white, about 270 degrees. No matter how I do this, the "open" part is at the back of the object. It's not possible to light an object from the back, so I can't get the shading right on the "white" part of the apple.
In the "classic" version, rotating from the one side (left, maybe) put the open part at the back, and rotating from the other side (the right, maybe) put the open part to the front.

Can someone please help what is going on with my Ai? Everytime I try to render out with ray-tracing ON these white stripes always shows up.
Please someone help!

Neha, you can do it right now.
It the section above the Distance and Bounds you have the Softness slider. To see the effect of it you should enable Real-time preview though, a button in the top right corner.
Does it work for you? -
Neha Madan commented
Need an option to soften the shadow in 3D effects. Right now it has options to edit the distance and bounds only.
