Hi Everyone, This feature has been available since August 2020 release (version 24.3). Please update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html Thank you for all the feedback.
You can now select multiple layers in Layers panel. Click the bars (they get highlighted blue) if you want to operate layers and not their content (e.g. to drag to reorder) or click their markers to select their content — circle (target ones) or square (selection ones) next to them. There is no real difference which to pick, but if you want to select a range of layers, using Shift, use target markers.

I've been in contact with your support teams and they have just told me to make new tickets regarding this even though this one has 238 votes on it already. Or they will tell me things like, "We appreciate your feedback but don't respond to individual bug/feature requests" or some other copy/paste response.
As paying customers can you please provide us with an update or some transparency on a timeline of this backlog or if it's fallen through the cracks?
An error occurred while saving the comment MaloryArcher commentedI'm literally just going tot copy/paste a suggestion from ages ago that's been put on "backlog" because the last response from Adobe was from 2017 and it's 2020.
"Okay if you have more than one layer...let's say 50 and I need to select 20 of them. Why can't someone select them with a single click instead of selecting every single layer? With shift selected I can mark more than one but they aren't selected. Same thing for sublayers and so on."
To elaborate, we need a better way to Shift+select numerous target layers without having to select each one-by-one. Right now you can only select one at a time, which is insane. This has been an issue for sooo long.

The latest Beta 28.8.0.37 now has this function back.
You can enable the mode using a button in Control Panel or in Properties, with the Artboard tool picked.
The option automatically enables Scale Strokes & Effects option temporarily.
As always, you can hold Shift to resize proportionally.
Please test it and comment back!

The latest Beta build 29.0.0.9 now allows us to create a gradient from selected swatches, using two ways:
- Select swatches you need (use Cmd/Ctrl to select several) and drag-n-drop them onto the gradient strip in Gradient panel.
- Select swatches you need and choose the new 'Gradient from Swatches Selection' command from the Swatches panel’s flyout menu.
In both cases new gradient stops will be spread uniformly, using the current order of swatches in the panel (not the order of selection).
If you have artwork selected in the document while doing this, the gradient will be automatically applied to it.
Please try the feature and comment back.

THIS HAS BEEN FIXED.
Make sure you're running the latest version of Illustrator (latest is v25.0) You can find what version you're running by opening Illustrator & going to Help > About Illustrator
See attached images. Select one layer target and then another layer target and it will select all targets in-between. Prior to this fix you had to select them individually, you couldn't Shift select multiple in one go.
If you continue to have problems, or have a different problem entirely reach out to Adobe. They no longer monitor this thread.
