I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 25.2 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

There is no true PDF Export in Illustrator, because Illustrator allows to have editable PDFs with .ai-content stored within. Other apps does not allow that, and some users heavily rely on editable PDFs.
Attemps to solve this were made, but there is no clear solution so far. Still we hope to find one.
The intended way to get a PDF (without loosing your data) at the moment would be to use Save a Copy command that saves a separate copy of your file to PDF instead of Save As which keeps a saved file open.
An error occurred while saving the comment BWhite commentedThis is an EXTREMELY important feature! I always need to send a PDF version of my open document to clients, but keep the .AI version as the active document. This requires an EXPORT, not SAVE AS function. I've tried writing a javascript with ExtendScriptToolkit but there isn't the ability to script a "Save As PDF" without closing the current document. So what happens with my script is that I lose the ability to undo anything (i.e., it reverts to the saved version from disk, which has no HISTORY)

Hi Everyone,
This functionality is available in our latest release build – 27.6.1.
Illustrator remembers the last preset used for saving PDF files and keeps it as the default preset.
