Doesn’t happen on Windows :/ Perhaps it’s a Mac thing?
Does the View > Reset Rotate View command work? Should be something like Cmd+Shift+1 by default on Macs... just to know if it works at all.

As for the Escape key having no customization options, as well as Enter, Backspace, Delete, etc. — yes, these are hardcoded, and there are several requests to allow using these for other purposes:
    — Remove 'move' function mapping from the Return/Enter key, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/37363180
    — Escape key should deselect any selected object, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/41179072

Yes, I agree, the 'screens' part implies the wrong intent. If you had a chance to offer a better name for it — what would it be?

As for the 'everything gets included' — yes, a separate problem: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/32252662
There is a reason behind the current way it works. Artboards are NOT pages. They can look like them, but they can also overlap and nest! Preserving the original document within is a safe way to ensure nothing gets lost, as the name of the option implies — otherwise it won’t be the original anymore. Sure, an option to 'cleanup' should exist, I agree — so please upvote that one and advise others to do it as well. This actually works.

Lourens, Jesse, when I check PDFs exported form a CMYK document using Asset Export / Export for Screens method, they STAY CMYK (Acrobat says so), and do get exported as separate files — if I check 'Export PDFs as: Multiple Files' option.
    Can you check this please?

It’s hard to reply to this, really.
Some things are being re-evaluated now, and the effort to improve the performance has been in work for a long time: adding multithreading support (piece by piece, one place at a time, to avoid unexpected problems), launch time optimization, background saving, incremental saving... it’s the ongoing process, and Ai’s codebase is HUGE. It takes a long time!

But if you have specific points that bother you — please share! The team watches this place, and its purpose is to help all parties to have a better app.

Strangely, some team members believe that disabling ligatures would not be correct according to the font standard (even though I can’t tell which one) and the font maker’s expectations... they think these should be honored for default Open Type.

I personally can’t agree with it.
Bad taste or not, we can FORCE Ai to use Optical kerning with modifying [Basic Paragraph Style]... (for me it’s a more serious crime, but Ai allows it nonetheless). Not seeing why OpenType Features should be immune...
Toggling Standart Ligatures button doesn’t make an opened document profile dirty, so one can’t make it a default option for a new doc.

Same as Magic Wand tolerance — and people beg to change this value to 0 by default (or make sticky) — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/35662705.

I suppose this just needs more votes then.

    Still a problem in 2025.
Illustrator window occasionally shrinks on launch to the smallest size possible (no second monitor is connected).
While in this state, Ai refuses to open a document, showing a message it has no enough memory.

    Tested in Beta 29.8.0.10

With Real-Time Drawing and Editing ON
GPU: the object is updated in real time both with the field focused or not
CPU: updated only with non-focused field

    Wit Real-Time OFF
GPU: updated only with non-focused field
CPU: updated only with non-focused field

Other fields I tried, like Width, Height, Stroke Weight, update the object regardless of the focus.
In CC 2017 Opacity also gets updated for both states just fine.

I think it’s a bug. Scrolling once over a value is a complete finite operation, no matter if the field is focused.

There is a separate request about the ability to scale only appearance, but not objects, here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/50217672

While the Transform each method I mentioned there in the comment works, it’s not interactive — the same problem this request raises. So I’d like to have an additional mode we can enable with another key held, to do this.

There are two more request you might be interesting in upvoting:
    1. Add Transform Again Individually / Transform Sequence Again / Sequence Again Individually commands, as in InDesign:
    http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49716974
    2. Add a Step and Repeat Feature

Affinity Designer allows something very similar with a dedicated 'Transform Objects Separately' button in their version of Control panel.

Yep, this can be an option.
Today we can do this numerically with Object > Transform > Transform Each dialog, but not with a tool interactively.
Do you often need to have free rotation for multiple objects? Does the dialog way with Preview option on works for you?

Actually, Transform Each dialog allows to scale appearance and not objects.
Call it, uncheck 'Transform Objects', make sure you have 'Scale Stroke & Effects' enabled there, type the scale value(s).
The method is not interactive, and the 'Scale Stroke & Effects' global option becomes toggled, but I think it’s usable.

There is an existing request about Transform Each being an interactive method, here — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/46268581 — but I bet it won’t have a secondary mode we could enable with a key added, unless we ask for this...
So the request is still valid!

Meanwhile, Photoshop has Layer > Layer Style > Scale Effects: helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/layer-effects-styles.html#scale-layer
Toolshed plugin by Graffix (https://rj-graffix.com/downloads/plugins/) has a free feature, Scale Stroke Weight — 'will scale the line thickness of selected paths without scaling the art itself'.... checked it, alas: has no Preview, grabs only one stroke, ignores everything else... perhaps can be improved?

Do you have the file still?
To fix the problem, the team would need to replicate it on their side, so please send it over to sharewithai@adobe.com and put the link to this report for backtracking: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/50210007

This should have just worked :(
Kenneth, were you bale to recover the document afterwards?
When you tried to move the artwork again — did it behave the same, or was it the only time it froze like this?
Does it happen with any other document?
Can you tell if these objects you move had any images? or objects with effects applied?

This is not really normal, there are some related problems, but it’s hard to say for sure until you provide more information.
What font is it? Did you install it locally or from Adobe Font? What Ai build are you using? Is it your file or was it given to you by another user?

According to the team, SVG copy/paste was disabled by default as many customers see performance issues on Windows 11 (due to clipboard recorder). It can get enabled back again in Preferences > Clipboard Handling > Include SVG Code.

AdminEgor Chistyakov (Admin, Adobe Illustrator) commented  ·

If you have 'Include SVG Code' enabled in Preferences > Clipboard, Illustrator should copy the SVG code along with several others formats, all at the same time, and all other applications that paste the copied artwork chose the one they need on their own. Some apps allow to choose one of the streams copied; should it be a raster copy, a PDF one, or SVG... some apps still can’t do it.
Just to have a broader picture, what apps you try to paste your icons into, and fail to get them in vector?

Dan, let’s try to figure this out.
Can you share the file? If possible, attach one in a comment (will be public), or send to sharewithai@adobe.com (in this case mention the link to this report for backtracking, http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/50221443). It doesn’t have to be the full document, only enough artwork to keep the behavior happening.
My guess is that there are some other entities that use the swatches deleted... graphic or text styles, symbols, brushes... The default action set Ai provides has a dedicated action to run the Select Unused + Delete for each panel, not only Swatches — please try to run it (or do it manually, if you purged default actions) — would it help?

Even if it’s the cause, I don’t say it should work like this, but this would allow to find the exact chain of steps and make it obvious for the team.
Things like this linger since older days, and these stay unfixed only because we don’t talk about these enough — so thank you for the report.

Chel, you can achieve this using symbols (the closest thing Ai has to parent pages in InDesign).
If you create an artboard-sized rectangle (or slightly larger, to solve the problem of slightly off-artboard elements), convert it to a symbol, place it on each artboard you need and then edit it — this would result in the same exact behavior you need.
Symbols do have some limitations, specifically with images — but links are handles more or less fine externally.
Does this method make any sense to you? Please comment.
