Dear users,
Can you please let us know what is that you cannot do with the existing 'save selection' functionality that you expect to do by grouping objects from different layers?
'Save selection' enables you to combine objects from different layers without having to bring them into one single layer.
To use 'save selection' just select your desired objects and save the selection from the select > save selection menu command or from the bottom of the layers panel.

Changing the workspace seems to correct the issue until you click on a Finder window, then the problem returns.

The issue seems to be related to attributes added to the text like drop shadow, or extra stroke or fill. Also, sometimes when you add and delete an attribute, the auto spell check will continue to not function even though it no longer has any effects.

There's a problem creating a NEW link to share the document after the initial link has been created.

Build 28.0 on a Mac Book Pro M1 Max
If I close and restart Illustrator it will then be able to create the new review link.
I use this function every week on an ongoing project and it nearly always fails without restarting.

I'd like to see a menu item: Edit > Copy as Plain Text and/or Edit > Copy as RTF. RTF would be my preference.
I currently paste into TextEdit, then copy again and paste into the final destination.

Save selection is cumbersome for selecting the collection. It's fine for occasional use, but in a design with lots of objects that need to move together while keeping their Z position in the stack, the process of going to the menu for each selection is inefficient.
This is how I would solve this problem ... When you make a Saved Selection, Illustrator creates a new non-printing "null object" that would be visible on screen that gives you one-click access to the saved selection. This object is always on top of all other objects It would have the same function as the saved selection, but would be more easily accessible. Clicking the null object would select all the child objects in the same way the current "saved selection" function does. Once they are selected they can be transformed just as they normally would as individually selected objects.
I imagine it would be helpful to also have the ability to option-click the null object to move it independently if it's in the way of other objects on the screen or needs to be in a more accessible position without moving the group. We should be able to colorize and name the null object and that name should reveal itself when you hover over it with the mouse. Hovering over it would also cause the child objects to be highlighted so we can see the grouping. With some experimentation and testing, I feel like this could be refined into a good solution to the core issue in this thread.
