- Click on the object you want to measure the distance from
- Press Opt/Alt and hover over the object that you want to measure distance to
- You can also hover over empty area to see the distance from the selected object and the artboard boundaries

I am happy to share that ‘Auto spell-check’ feature has been shipped in the latest version of Illustrator. Here is how to enable/disable it in the latest release : https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/whats-new/2020.html#spellcheck

Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.An error occurred while saving the comment Simon Bowland commented
I keep disabling Smart Guides - CTRL + U. First time I disable them, they remain enabled. Second time I disable them, they do actually switch off but then switch back on again when I relaunch Illustrator.

Image quality is poor with GPU performance activated in 22.1: lines appear too thick, anchor points are left on screen when they should have cleared, random artifacts appear on screen for no apparent reason. Solution is either deactivating GPU performance (not acceptable) or toggling to CPU preview on every document every single time the document is opened (also not acceptable).

Latest versions of Illustrator can do that.
If you have the bounding box enabled, double-click the bottom filled square handle to toggle Auto Size.
You can also do that in Area Type Options dialog.

Happy to share that you can now format your text using the following keyboard shortcuts :
Shift + Ctrl (Win) / Cmd (Mac) + B (Bold) / I (Italic) / U (Underline)
You can also customise these shortcuts from the keyboard settings

Agreed. Character and Paragraph Styles are both broken.
