That's the foundation of illustrator I think, and it still there although it is completely insane to have to click on the edge to select it.
And if you want to select the colour of the mask, it is even more trickier because you have to click exactly on the edge, which can take several seconds only to pick one colour !!
    Please Adobe change that !

Hi Everyone, This feature has been available since August 2020 release (version 24.3). Please update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html Thank you for all the feedback.

You can now select multiple layers in Layers panel. Click the bars (they get highlighted blue) if you want to operate layers and not their content (e.g. to drag to reorder) or click their markers to select their content — circle (target ones) or square (selection ones) next to them. There is no real difference which to pick, but if you want to select a range of layers, using Shift, use target markers.

When I have an opened path, I really often (really !) need to add a new path at the exact same place of the last anchor point of the first opened path.

See the image: it is impossible to not continue the first opened path.
We always need to block the first path in order to draw the new path without linking it to the first one.

I would like to click on the alt key in order to remove the / from the pen tool (on the image) in order to draw this new path independently.

I agree. It should be an option, or even better a default setting to check or not in the preferences.
