An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment MarkR commentedTHANK YOU, Egor! I was modifying the wrong "Bevels.ai" file (there are several all over the place). Adobe has changed the location of the "Bevels.ai" file which actually works.
Thank you for that video, as well.
An error occurred while saving the comment MarkR commentedThe attached screen-capture is where the custom Bevel would show up (from modifying the Bevels.ai file with a custom new Symbol).
An error occurred while saving the comment MarkR commentedIllustrator used to have the ability to create customer Bevel profiles ( in the Bevels.ai file in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 23/en_US/Symbols ). HOWEVER, the feature is now gone! Please give us the option to create custom Bevels, again! Thank you.
Last year, 2018, I created a object and gave it a 3D custom bevel, and now I can do nothing with that object. Whenever I try to do something with it Illustrator crashes. I couldn't figure out what was going on until I tried creating a custom Bevel again. There is no way to create a custom Bevel! When I open the "Bevels.ai" file from last year, I can see the custom Bevel profile I created in the Symbols panel, but it's nowhere to be found in the Effect-3D Bevels list.

Thank you all for reporting this issue and providing us your valuable feedback.
What we have found out so far is that this issue can happen in multiple workflows. For clear tracking, validation and closure. We will closing this thread for given below two scenarios which we believe are fixed now:
1)Double click any Ai file to launch Illustrator
2)Placing files in Illustrator via Bridge. For two other scenarios that we know of that can cause this, we have created a separate thread :https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/39220189-ai-displays-the-start-screen-on-opening-the-file-a .If you are encountering the below mentioned issues with latest Version (24.0.1 on Mac and Win), then please vote on newly provided User voice thread and provide Test File via File→Package, Video and steps via dropping email at sharewithai@adobe.com along with this thread link so that we can identify and fix the root cause.

I can see it in the Navigator and in the Layers menu and in the Windows list menu, but not on the screen. The only thing I see on the screen is that annoying "Recent" files list. Restarting both Illustrator and my iMac over and over and over does not fix it. I'm on a 2017 2015-edition iMac running Sierra and the latest version of Illustrator CC 22.1.
The only thing that has worked is a suggestion on the forums by RepulseMonkey, and that is to perform Window/Arrange/Float In Window and then the .ai document appears. Then perform Window/Arrange/ Cascade and the .ai document arranges into the normal tabbed presentation display.
PLEASE fix this, Adobe.
Turns out that the directory/location of the correct "Bevels.ai" has been changed since 2018. The correct location of the "Bevels.ai" file which works is here:
/Applications/Adobe Illustrator CC 2019/Support Files/Resources/en_US/Bevels.ai
Modifying this file does NOT work:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 23/en_US/Symbols/Bevels.ai
The solution to this problem was shown on this Feature-Request here:
