This is now possible with Edit > Paste without Formatting command, as per this completed request: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/31954825-paste-with-formatting-cmd-shift-v
Use Ctrl + Alt + V on Windows or Option + Command + V on Mac.

A sample file would have helped. I applied radial gradient on a circle and exported it to SVG. The visual appearance was matched. There are some limitations in SVG 1.1 spec like absence of blending mode support that can affect.

Thanks for reporting this issue.
We are getting response from users that they are facing this issue no more on Latest Illustrator released version .Hence marking this issue as resolved.In case you are still encountering this issue.

Same. This is incredibly frustrating ruining my ability to work efficiently and effectively. The problem occurs frequently -- enough so that I end up exporting the files into a different program when text needs to be used.
